Need advice from the tech savvy...dell laptop
I'm replacing my asus g72, which I bought in 2009 brand new for 1200.
I bought it as a desktop replacement for gaming. It came with a gt260 nvidia card, and 6 gigs of ram, 500gig hd.

right now I have the option to buy a dell inspiron 17r special edition. They cost 1100$ brand new, but I can get one for 800 from someone who got it as a gift, and never used it, just opened the box.

It has a nvidia gt650 2 gigs. 8 gigs of ram, an i7 processor and 1 tb harddrive. The guy is on his way and should be in here in about an hour to sell me the laptop. Convince my why I SHOULD or shouldn't buy it.

The biggest bottleneck for performance in any PC you get will be the HDD. Get the PC from him and buy a solid state HDD. Preferably an OCZ one.

Asus as some don't know have a very small reset button on the underside of them. Push it with a paperclip unfolded and wala! It's like new again.

yeah the asus still works...its a great laptop, the best computer I've ever owned. Its too bad you cant upgrade laptops easily because I would just upgrade my processor and gpu and be on my way..

also I agree about the SSD. So does anyone have any reasons as to why I shouldnt buy this laptop?

Are you after performance? Security?

Download and burn an ISO of Linux Mint, Slackware, or Fedora.... wipe Windows off the HDD and install linux.

Unless you know the guy and he's willing to write out a sales receipt for you, you might have the local police knocking on your door shortly after you attempt to log into the internet. Make sure he writes the serial on the sales receipt in case the cops want to track him down. If he's "a guy" you don't know ask for an ID. If he objects, it's probably hot or damaged.

...and make sure you take it out of the box and fire it up. A scam I saw when I worked for a PD was selling "new in box" computers which actually had a brick in the box. They would not let the buyer see the computer first as "it won't be new and sealed in box for the next guy if you decide not to buy it". Good box, but empty.
