We are meant to connect, and to help each other. Not to avoid the truth about what is happening to people in other countries. We as a species are not meant to consume past the point where it directly affects someone else. |

We as a species are not meant to consume past the point where it directly affects someone else. i tend to agree, just less the spiritual mumbo jumbo. look, here in the states at least, it's pretty much all about cutting the other cats throat. you know you've "made it" when your road to success is littered with corpses behind you (metaphorically for the most part). that's where the conflict comes in. we're hard wired for cooperative effort, but pushed by circumstance and greed to abandon that primal imperative so we can have the junk we brainwash ourselves into believing we need. there's a couple of "fixes" for that situation: you can be introspective (tie on the hip waders and grab the drain auger, and finally flush the shit out so you can be what you really are), but that takes effort. it means facing the reality of ones own lack of humanity. the other choice is just popping a "happy pill", and numbing it all into the background noise. that allows "keeping up with the jones' " without the pesky distraction of overt self loathing. it's the path of least resistance for most. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24990026 Yes, this "reality" has created mental illness. And it has been going on since humans evolved egos, and decided to ignore their problems. Simple solution; be a human being, deal with your problems, be responsible for who you are, and live your life. |
