Pretty much blows, unless you happen to work for Purdue. State/FedGov employees doing just fine.

The small factories are all gone, killed by Democrat legislation. Even Subaru is considering layoffs.

Here in Taos, NM. Oddly, tourism has been booming all year. Not sure why, but there you have it. I would have expected the opposite!

Yeah, but you have to feed them first, and then find some secured toxic site to bury what's left.

Not worth the effort. I've tried.

Re: Give us your field report on your local economy
There is a very large large Chinese restaurant where I go eat about once every month or two.

Up until a couple years ago, there was always a line. You had to wait to be seated because every table was taken.

Now it is less than half full.

I shop at a local Publix grocery store. It's the same there. They used to have 5 or 6 cashiers working in the evening. Now it's two or three.

The local dying Mall is much the same. It's been dying for years. Half the cars in the lot are employees's cars. If you walk around the mall, there is barely a customer in most of the stores.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 621092

I was at a Walmart Super Store last Wednesday. They easily had 20 available check out registers. Only 4 were operating with clerks at the register. Of course you had to wait in line at one of the checkout locations. Also, the bank card scanner was quite slow. It took longer than usual for it to process the purchase.

I live in a small town in CT, lots of woods. Not a lot of money. Things are fine though. Gas and food is absolutely rising. But no big poverty issues in my town. But people make money here doing simple things. Local car shops, tree cutting, there's some small restaurants. Nobody seems to be struggling, but I think people are working harder.

We're getting alot of these BUMS too -- they seem to be Greyhounding in from other parts of the country.

Plenty of jobs here in Texas, but they don't want to work, unless you call holding a cardboard begging sign out in front of the Walmart "work". They even have a big "tent city" here now to house all those bums. At least it keeps them out of sight most of the time.

When I'm on my way to work every morning at 4:45am I make sure to give the bums in the tent city a nice loud air horn blast from my rig as I go by. A nice friendly "wakeup call" for them. If I can't sleep in why should they get to?

Get up off your asses and get to work!

Wyoming is limping along quite well right now. We have new oil in central to southern Wyoming, so there is a lot of business coming into the state. We don't usually get hit as hard by recession anyway.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

By the way, he says USPS is voting for Obama and they're worried about what will happen to their benefits if Romney gets in. Romney is a business man and knows they have to make some serious cuts in order to survive.

Here in Pittsburgh the economy was going well up until this year. I noticed retailers cut a lot of jobs and some of the stores I go to cut their hours down to 37 a week. Def getting harder to keep a good job. I am trying to find another job in a more secure market.

Reno was a shithole before the collapse and that fact still hasn't changed.

Commercial realty is about 1/3 vacant.

Housing market it still crap.

The tourism has dropped out. Hotel occupancy and gaming revenue keep declining.

NO DUMBASS, because this company ALREADY has a worldwide reputation and can base their headquarters in a more business friendly environment/state, and having that kind of reputation amongst the surfing world means that professionals will order online/phone order and have it shipped to them, YOU IDIOT. So having a storefront in a geographically advantageous location is not a dominating factor in their sales approach.

The construction industry here is booming. Apartment buildings are going up in every direction, so anyone willing to bend his back can have a job. Next will come the boom in finishing the apartments (ceramic tile, furniture, decor), then the wedding party people will make their money, next the baby supply people, and nurseries, and so on.

Ninety million people have to eat, etc., and someone has to make and sell them what they need.

Financially, I've never been better off.

BUT, prices have skyrocketed. In 2009, I paid 2.5 LE for a kilo of tomatoes, however now a kilo is 7 LE.
