They could be asking refineries to hold fuel aside in there own tank systems, or even loaded on tankers. California fuel being high could be explained by local mishaps. But why nationwide is gas unusually high with respect to crude oil prices?

maybe it's being diverted to DHS to fuel those 2500 urban tanks. remember what was in the .308 contract: 'must be delivered in 30 days'. They know it's all falling apart....

Interesting thought OP. I would usually test a thoery against past instances. For example, the 2003 invasion of Iraq. I know the initial attack ('shock and awe') took about a month or so, but I wonder if there's any correlation.

As the prices keep on rising, the Oil Tankers park up off-shore and make millions more $ a day in profit as the prices rise etc.

In order to cause such a large spike in gas prices, a major event must be underway. There is no way that a refinery fire that happened two months ago is going to cause this kind of price surge. Either the US is in preparation for a major war or some event will take place that will cause a major disruption in gasoline production/delivery and this is just the market reacting in advance.

Look, at this stage, anything is possible. Both sides are now using the "conspiracy" word. They are accusing eachother of fabricating jobs reports, cheating during the debate, etc. So I won't say that it is impossible. However, with all the stuff we have been following, I think that it is not the most likely cause of the price spike. What is the most likely cause? That, my friend, is the $64k question and that is why we are here on GLP.

Re: Is it possible that the California refineries ARE MAKING FUEL FOR THE MILITARY?
California uses a special summer gasoline blend that is not produced outside the state...

There are 18 refineries in California (excluding asphalt refineries) only 8 refine over 100k/day...

2 of the 8 major refineries were down this week.....

Among the recent disruptions, an Aug. 6 fire at a Chevron Corp. refinery in Richmond that left one of the region's largest refineries producing at a reduced capacity, and a Chevron pipeline that moves crude oil to Northern California also was shut down.

Exxon Mobil Corp. said a refinery in Torrance returned to normal operations Friday after the power failure Monday disrupted production for most of the week. State officials said with the refinery coming back online, prices should start falling.

Gasoline inventories in California, however, are still at their lowest point in more than 10 years, a situation made worse by the mandate for the special summer gasoline blend. Few refineries outside the state can make it, meaning there are few outside sources to draw from for help, Cinquegrana said.

No, I have it! They're making super secret alternative UFO fuel for the Chinese at the secret bases in the desert!

Oh, oh, even better. They've been taken over by the Russian troops and the invasion has begun.
