Israeli Air Force fighter jets shoot down unmanned drone south of Hebron

The Israeli Air Force intercepted an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle that entered Israel's airspace early Saturday morning. The UAV was shot down in an open field in the Northern Negev. IDF troops are canvassing the area in order to locate and identify the UAV's parts, the IDF Spokespersons Unit said Saturday.


According to Palestinian reports, the UAV departed from the Gaza Strip and managed to fly over several Israeli settlements in southern Israel, including the city of Beersheba. (Yoav Zitun and Elior Levy)

The IDF is investigating whether the drone originated in Gaza or possibly Lebanon. The last time a drone was used against Israel was in the 2nd Lebanon war. If its from Lebanon it's Hezbollah. If it's from Gaza it's the Islamic Jihad or another group operating there being supplied by Iran.

Israeli journalist Alon Ben David now reporting the drone was there for a spy mission and that it's origin was not from Gaza.

Having said that, this guy is sometimes wrong.

This journalist and now Ynet (English article should be out soon) say that according to military estimates the drone did not take from Gaza.
