You know whey women give birth?
Because we are the stronger sex. We ca handle pain better. If a man were to have a contraction, we would hear about it in detail and we would hear every single time he had one.
A woman just gets on with it.

And as you're half the reason she was giving birth and in pain, she can understandably blame you for what she's going thru.
And no, all other animals do in fact show signs of pain during labor. Having grown up on a farm, as well as employed as a vet tech for several years, I've seen many different species give birth. Have you ever had a kidney stone?
