Under paid? I think they are some of the dumbest fuckers in our society. They have done more damage to our kids than people can imagine...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22421783

Why do you think that?
You don't think it's the parents fucking their children up?
 Quoting: BlondeDramaQueen

When kids spend 8/9 hours a day with school teachers and spend 3/4 hours a day with their family, guess you they listen to.

They are fed societies crap all day every day. These idiot teachers just regurgitate all the crap they are told to. Just robots!

They disgust me. Fat, dumb, afraid fools. And we give our kids to them!!!! Crazy.

Over paid? They should be spit on!

A real teacher is way underpaid.

Someone who turns up every day and goes through the motions is not a teacher.

Those "teachers" should be paid fuck all.

Teachers don't need more money, they need more control over what goes on in the classroom. Kick the gang banger wannabes back to their parents to deal with,(homeschooling) and then the teachers will get a chance to actually teach.

They need to kick kids out of schools and make them be home schooled or alternative schools.

you are in germany? how can we compare? all i have to say is that i think it is ridiculous how many teachers are paid more than the average resident in their district. the teachers over here don't even work a full year. deduct two months off in the summer, two weeks off at christmas, one week off at easter and every single federal holiday and out of a 365 day year i do believe that all you work is 180 days, yet you're paid a yearly salary?

you have a union, and at least in new york, you have tenure which means no matter what kind of job you do, good or bad, you can never be fired and still we are told you are not making enough?

you are fully covered for medical, dental and vision for not only you, but your entire family. you are given 'personal days' to attend to the family pet or just shop if you feel like it.

lets see have i missed anything? oh yes, you are given one hour a day to plan what you are going to do with the other five in your classroom, and in some cases you are not allowed more than 22 kids in any class?

combine all of the above and johnny still can't read. what do you think, are you underpaid?

Re: Are Teachers Underpaid?
OP, your question is way too broad. It is like saying are women underpaid, or are actors paid too much.

There are many teachers who are overpaid. Those who got Tenure and hate their jobs and the kids, but stay for the benefits, and the job security.

It is different depending on which grade you teach, how many kids you are responsible for, and if you teach in a private of public school.

Do you teach science, math or music or art?

Some teachers have too many students, and have a very stressful job. Pay is not equal among teachers, so there is no honest way to answer the original question.

I can understand people thinking getting the Summer off is unfair.

We are living in a time where expenses are going up and pay is going down, jobs are harder to get--my advice? If you have a job--keep it.

Teachers think they teach but they are actually in the public person training business.

Good morning children. Welcome to school. Public school is where you are taught how to be properly useful to society, make friends, and influence people. Here is your curriculum:

1) Wake up early
2) SSS and eat your Wheaties
3) Go to work. work very hard. Get graded on your performance. Compare yourself to others.
4) Obey your masters and get a gold star.
5) Learn the history we want you to learn.
6) Exercise stay healthy so you can work a very long time
7) Climb the social ladder and want what everybody else has.
8) Aspire to gain access to the most expensive school you cannot afford.
9) Get a "job" to pay your loans
10) Want Want Want. Borrow Borrow Borrow. Spend Spend Spend.
11) Make a copy or two or ten of yourself, repeat the cycle, and grow the machine.
in warm pursuit...

When I got my science degree in 1965, I totaled what I could have made DIGGING DITCHES and what I spent, and it cost me $55,000 !

THEN, there IS the grinding of the emotions, insults, lack of backing by the principles for almost ANY major problem ( as decided by the pupil/parent AND principle ..... (They are NOT on the side of the teacher, ever !) because YOU are the one ON TRIAL !

Like a lot of jobs, you HAVE TO LIVE IT to appreciate it. MANY never make it past the first few weeks/months !

lets face it our cities and states are going bankrupt and the unions refuse to stop demanding more and more. it has to end somewhere, and this goes for the state and city employees, the police and fire departments too.

Re: Are Teachers Underpaid?
most people are underpaid if you go by the lack of income growth within society as a whole. I feel that teachers are just like other people, except that they have to be responsible for everyone's crap. Students- who get away with a lot more these days, parents or families of students who are over or under involved, administration who can often do work hard at lookin busy, and rules that basically make them babysitters instead of teachers at all.

It's sad, but that is what is going on. But work in general is like that now. Maybe they should have kept those dollars they used of the bailout and given everyone higher salaries. Who knows...

Re: Are Teachers Underpaid?
I have had an opportunity to observe teachers.

I have a bachelor's degree. In a few years, when my daughter is old enough to be in school, I want to work full-time. Until then, I am a journalist for a paper from home, and a part-time substitute teacher when my husband's off work to watch the baby.

What I can say, is that teachers do far more than you would think. They don't just teach. That's a misconception. They teach, stay at school hours after the children leave, spend nights and weekends making lesson plans/grading papers, handle discipline problems (which are much worse today than they used to be),attend meetings, have parent teacher conferences, have to fight parents who think their children should be allowed to act like a wild monkey in the classroom, implement computers and the most modern technology into their lessons, prep for standardized tests, stress over the standardized test scores which could mean their job, plan and supervise school field trips, supervise fundraisers for those trips, supervise extracurricular activities such as, extend-a-care, sports, cheerleading, fullfill bus duty, lunchroom duty, and so on.

Oh, and people who think they get a break during the summer are wrong. Teachers stay there preparing for the following year, attending meetings and conferences, getting next year's lesson plans approved, and so on.

I don't know what these teachers make....but I'm pretty sure it's not near enough. Wouldn't you agree?

Now, I get a glimpse of how stupid or young many GLPers really are. You all think that the ones in charge of opening your children's minds to ideas and educating them to be more than brainless oafs are scum unworthy of even the acknowledgement they have.

You do not understand that not just anyone could or would be a teacher? You do not understand that patience and a love for the youth gives them the ability to open the mind of even some of the most willfully ignorant children?

These people live to serve and make this world a better place, while the majority of you only have the decency to spit at their feet?

Teachers are all individuals with patience and control that is not found in most people. It is a profession that can and does break people who are not cut from the right cloth.

Those of you who voted yes with resentment make me sick. Teaching is a profession of willful servitude in trying to make the world better for future generations.

Such disrespect shown to some of our most humble and well intended citizens. They know the pay is low, but the task is honorable to suffice the sacrifice they make.

For those ' uneducated' in how the public school system works, IN REALITY, it is BASICALLY all POLITICAL, starting at the TOP, the US Department of Education, state control and LOCAL parasitic politicians who CONTROL/ LIMIT just what you CAN ACTUALLY teach !

Try being 'inventive', stray off THEIR curriculum and your up on charges/fired ! Just takes ONE doctor, whose child you have to complain, and the ROOF FALLS IN, as he is 'God' and knows everything, WITHOUT having to explain that OR confront you personally !

You have to 'Live it' to understand IT !

Re: Are Teachers Underpaid?
No that attitude is part of the new agenda.

Like books, teachers, and vocab, homework is also bad.

The teacher teaches the concept, the student does the problem set to master the concept. Nothing like problem sets to create new neural patterns in a young brain.

OH Sorry that's old school and is evil and now gone

Now the teacher is a facilitator, and the students will teach themselves in small groups with activities and there is no check for understanding or mastery.

And as Buzz Aldrin said at the new science knock off party "we're lighting this fire across the county."

Consider it the funeral pyre of old ed.

As you say, I save those words and keep them unaltered. Your view of teachers is tainted by some personal vendetta. I know not all teachers are the best, but at least they are trying.

By the way, teachers are not entitled to anything. They are paid for the months they work, and they can choose whether or not that want a portion of their salary to be rationed for the summer. Insurance for them is extremely high compared to how much they make.

Instead of pointing fingers, maybe you should get to know a teacher. It is much more mature than reverting to, "Well they get something and I don't!" Especially when you are wrong.
