Are Teachers Underpaid?

I'm always hearing how underpaid teachers are. I've read different things. I know as a teacher most days I feel underpaid, I feel overly stressed and beat down physically and emotionally.
But are we really as underpaid as everyone thinks?

So as a tax paying citizen what do you think? Do you think teachers bitch to much about their pay or do you think they don't deserve the pay they get?

I totally agree with you.
They need to kick kids out of schools and make them be home schooled or alternative schools.
These kids are so disrespectful!

I have been a teacher in the industry for 30 years. Are teachers underpaid? That depends on the teacher, on the district, on the scruples and integrity of the teacher.

For my part, I have always given 100%. If I tallied the hours (and this is true for all of the teachers who really care and give their utmost) I work about 80 hours/week. My hourly salary comes out to about $3.50 per hour. That hasn't changed over the last 10-15 years where I work.

So, are there losers out there milking the system, or doing harm to our children?
Yes.
Are the majority of teachers like that?
I say not.
If you have been a teacher, you would understand the tremendous sacrifice we make to do the right thing by your kids.
Those of you uninvolved would not have a clue. I guess that is why you think we are so very overpaid.

I've said this many times on here...I live in Germany but I'm from OHIO.

I know someone who is a paid GLP member. When he signed up, he listed his information as living in the USA, and GLP listed him as Germany. He tried to change it for over a year to no avail, so he gave up.
