OK GLP I need your help making a HUGE decision
Short and sweet,

I am a disabled Vet (non combat) with back problems I have been fighting off for the last 10+ years. I was always able to go into therapy and rebound. Not this time.

I also have a 2 Y/O Daughter.

Sooo, I can try to go back to work (they may try to push me out) OR, go on disability. Try to get well enough to be a stay at home daddy, but it would be hard.

Having a kid complicated things. I do make a lot of money and have just about used up all my (man the fuck up pills)
Just too much pain. Docs say its mostly nuromuscular and they can do nothing to fix. Just try to work on strengthening.

I cannot decide. I want whats best for my famliy, and both have equal neg vs posatives. Disability $$ is an unknown factor. I already have my house up for sale.

any words of wizdom??

There's always the surgical option, spinal fusion, etc... But conservative care is always the best option if you can manage it. Low impact exercise is the way to go. Swimming is probably the very best but walking & biking are also good.

As for pain mitigation, pills are dangerous. They have a major side effects and people die from them all the time. Medical marijuana is great for managing pain and nobody has ever died from it... But with all of the stereotypes around it, good luck.

If you're overweight, then that's the quickest way to negatively effect your pain.

Good luck and thank you for your service!

I am guessing your payment will be around $800. per month? I am 52, and have had 2 Laminectomy's 6 weeks apart, L4-5 and S1. Still have the same problem.

The question for me, was do I conclude my life on a meager existence, hoping the payments keep coming, as our government is drowning in debt.

Find a way to make your own luck. That's what I did. You will feel better about yourself, and be an example for your kids.

Just my .02. hf Good luck.

Hi OP.

Thank you for your service to our country.

My Dad is a retired orthopedic (back) surgeon. He has ALWAYS said NEVER EVER have surgery on your back. One back surgery usually (almost always) leads to many many more surgeries with little or no improvement.

May I ask, how did you injure your back in the first place?

Try energy healing, maybe reiki in connection with massage. Can't hurt although I think it would take months of weekly treatments.

Re: OK GLP I need your help making a HUGE decision
I would try to do the strengthening exercises and try to be patient toward my recovery.

I would not go on disability unless I feel like I have NO OTHER option.

I feel that once a person goes on disability they often become progressively more disabled over time.

I would also ask myself if where I live could help me live with my condition with greater success.

For instance, if I lived in a region tht has very long and cold winters, I would try to move were it is warm or hot for at least half the year and it has mild shorter winters.

OP, if you took a disability, would your VA percentage change to 100% ? Wouldn't that be $2500 a month ?
Life is short, take the disability and spend time with your child hf

Best wishes for you !
