I have a good friend who is on their K-9 unit and he says they're fucked. The officers are on a 20% cut and working 12 hour days. My kid goes to school in the city and the new thing is kids on bikes riding up and demanding your cell phone. There's a heavy implication that not giving up the phone will not end well for the victim.

I was born at detroit mercy hospital and grew up in the burbs outside of detroit. Detroit has always been a very dangerous city. It is getting worse as companies flee to china... thank the Unions for that.

I lived briefly in Michigan last year, about an hour and a half outside of Detroit proper. The only time I ever ventured into the city was for an estate sale that seemed promising. As I got closer to the location, I began noticing burned out houses and other structures, visible from the interstate. Im talking over a dozen easy. At this point I began having second thoughts, but went on anyway. After exiting the freeway, I found myself in what seemed like something out of a movie. This was on a Saturday morning, mind you, but the six lane road was all but empty. Huge factories and warehouses, some blocks in size, sat empty and destroyed. Trash was everywhere, and I really did not feel comfortable stopping for red lights or stop signs. It resembled something you might expect to see in a SHTF type tv show. The only place that was up and running was a McDonalds, where I stopped for coffee. Their drive thru was fitted with a sliding drawer, where money and food both slid thru, keeping the employees safely protected behind the bullet proof glass window. It's almost something you'd have to see, to believe.

No when somebody wants to get paid 78.oo dollars per hour, take five breaks a day, gets drunk on lunch. can flip his supervisor the bird and tell him to go fuck himself, without worrying about getting fired. Then demand 7 weeks paid vacation and 10 paid sick days a month. If I owned the corporation i would move to china too. see my father worked for GM for 32 years i know the truth... Fuck the Unions. They destroyed our country.

The City of Detroit is bankrupt, as well as corrupt, plain and simple. It hasn't been safe for the last 50+ years, and never will be. The metro area has always known the reasons for it.

In the last 12 years the city has lost 225,000 people. Hence, less police.
Currently there is around 706,000 resident's, and the crime rate has increased because of the terrible poverty level. Something the lamestream media and lawyer for the police doesn't mention.

Even when there was 1000 more officers, everyone knew they were more corrupt than the resident's.

This place is its own planet

This is nothing new. Detroit has been a shit hole for a long time. I was told by a cop friend 20 years ago that you risk your life every time you go into the city of Detroit.

I hope they burn it down on Devil's Night this year.

Heh those of us from here know where to go and not to go...the downtown area has around 6 blocks that can be walked but, only during events such as a sport or concert when the masses are there in groups, even then there's no telling what will happen or what crazy will run by, including critters ;)

p.s. forget garage sale...they're dark, in alleys usually burned down with something very scary is in it

My step-father worked at GM in the '70s and '80s. He was a hardcore alcoholic, drunk all day, every day. His performance on the job was so bad, they took him off the line and had him mowing the lawn outside the factory, because he couldn't be fired. All his buddies that I met also worked at GM and they were drunk all the time, too.

These guys were making good money, and because they couldn't be fired, they did whatever the hell they wanted, including drinking on the job. It's no wonder that GM made shitty cars back then. Maybe things have changed since then, I don't know.

Unions may have had their place at one time, but by the '70s, they got so powerful that they strangled the businesses that employed them.
