It's worse. Funny thing is "Carmageddon" there was no traffic. The freeways in that area were clear.

I moved here from the south to LA about a while back. I live about 10 minutes away from Hollywood. Why do people like living in a polluted, expensive shithole? Never find parking, food is expensive crap. The people here think the world revolves around them yet they've never even left LA. It's like people live here and put up with all of this stuff just so they can say "I live in LA' and act like hotshots.

Side note, On my trip out here, I enjoyed Dallas the most. Dallas was pretty awesome.

Peter Gabriel is playing the Hollywood Bowl again tonight. I'm sure it's gonna be spectacular. They got a slightly overpriced open air restaurant where you can get a drink & some good chow during the opening acts. then grab a bottle of wine & watch some fantastic musicianship under the stars.

LA definitely has it's moments. But you should really plan your visits, schedule your road time for non peak hours & have an exit strategy.

Personally I like having it nearby to catch all the shows & clubbing out there was a blast when i was young & single. But I've never been interested in living in LA proper, too hectic.

Re: I fucking hate Los Angeles
Ever since I was a little girl, I watched music videos and "baywatch". I thought L.A. was like it would be like living in "paradise" so to speak! I started to constantly dream about living there one day, on the beach of course, and pursuing another life long goal I had of being a celebrity hairstylist!

The right time had finally came, so I left my job at a local salon (whom was like my 2nd family), I requested a 6 months "leave of absence", withdrew the 5,000 I had in savings, got the car tuned and headed out west. I was beyond excited to start the next chapterin my life which I had worked so hard toward accomplishing most of my 21 years of age at the time. I spent 8 years in that city and boy did I learn ALOT! Come to think I did ALOT of "CRAZY" things and had many unbelievable "good and bad" experiences.

I had NEVER been to California nor did I have any connections there. I also had no job or place to live lined up on purpose. I wanted to challenge my self and live "free" from ANYTHING that I felt was tying me down. I had never been outside of my "comfort zone" of support. One of the hardest things at first was not knowing "anyone" or where to go! I had barley even researched before I left!

I partied hard with the people from the shows I watched over the years and moved to Manhattan/Hermosa Beach. If only someone would have told me how awesome this little beach community would be sooner! I loved it! At first i didnt know where to go so I ended up in Hollyweird for a year and lived up on Sunset Blvd. LA was a huge dissapointment at first! The people in general were so different then what I was used to back home!

Most all... the guys I met were a bunch of DIRTBAG, COMPULSIVE LIERS who preyed on fresh new faces of naive, young women, aspiring to be a model/actresses. No one told me about "THE CASTING COUCH" and I barley avoided many "STICKY" situations at times not knowing who or what was to come "Next"! I made the mistake at getting a job serving drinks at one of the main strip clubs known in town, in hopes it would help me financially to stay afloat because "EVERYTHING" was so darn "EXPENSIVE"!!! I needed something to do while working toward my Cosmetology paperwork, state board exams and business licence to be complete, (which was required to legally cut hair in a different state).Plus, I knew at the rate things were going with the "scene" I fell into, that waitressing wasnt going to cut it! I was beginning to get requests for lap dances at the club and knew I could easily make 5 to 10 x's more money if I could just put my morals on hold for a bit! Not only 3 months later, I was working for THE BIGGEST and most popular Club in LAS VEgas making more money (every other weekend I would fly out there from LA) then I made in a whole month of working on my feet, ALL WEEK in the salon! I developed a gambling addiction on top of all the other crap that was going into my body! I couldnt dance without being in another place "mentally". I have NO IDEA how I even made it work since 90% of the time I was a "train wreak"!

Anyhow, finally after hitting what I thought was my "bottom" numerous times and coming face to face with death more then once, I met a good guy from back East. after I moved in with, seemed to be a good influence and Things started to straighen out for the better, just in time to get back on track and landed my "dream job" at a salon in Bevery Hills 1 block over from RODEO DRIVE!! This was my prime! While living at the beach! The commute SUCKED and the drivers were "CRAZY"! But IMO, I was goin to have to have some kind of "crap" to deal with for all the good I was experiencing too! After a couple years I decided the "clients" I was catering, were not very pleasent and pretty rude to deal with any longer. They think cuz they have unless money that their hair can do ANYTHING they want! This is just not the truth. Hair Texture and Color play important roles in the final outcome of design. I would explain to them in detail why it wouldnt work and that it would look horrible and they would not be happy with me or their hair and they would not take NO for an answer! At this point I knew better and would just refuse the service! They would then think I either didnt know how to DO the "style" they wanted, Ha, Or that I was just being lazy! Sometimes the consultations would run thru 3/4 of the appointment and then you got the clients waiting next complaining, and it creates a domino effect! I will tell you I am AMAZING and TALENTED at my profession and have been trained by "the best in the business"! (These women and some men) were the biggest SPOILED BRATS I had ever met! Expecting things and not appreaciating the little things in life! Cheapasses too! The whole learning experience taught me alot about people, and communication as well as about myself and who I am in reality. Many of them couldnt pay me enough to listen to all their "shit" AND do their hair at the same time! LOL Alot of entitlement and people wanting "freebies" cuz they think they ARE SOMEBODY WITH A NAME! Ridiculious!!!

Soon after turning 30, I was homesick and didnt feel challenged anymore! It is hard to explain but I felt as though I had "mastered" my ALL MAIN GOALS and DESIERS I had ever dreamt and I thought,... "Well, NOW WHAT? To be honest, in the past, I never thought about children and marraige before that time, because my carreer was my top priority! Therefore, I got pregnat and moved back closer to family and roots which was most important to me. Sorry for rambling but I just wanted to share! :) Thank You!

P.S. GO VISIT THE "SOUTH BAY" area in L.A. These are the cities of Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach! It is a fun area and different (more clean and up-scale) then Santa Monica or Venice! It's like a hidden little treasure with lots of nightlife and shops with great food! So much to do that it is hard to "Work" if you live there!

Fuck LA! Fuck California in general! I moved out here unfortunately and I can't stand it now I'm stuck in this shithole. It's literally like hell. I truly believe there is a hell because it's California. So ridiculously expensive, congested, horrible fucking illegal drivers everywhere, Spanish is the 1st fucking language out here. This is the most over rated fucking state there is. And don't tell me to "move" cuz I unfortunately can't, I used my money to come out here and it was a huge fucking mistake. Everytime I go somewhere I get pissed off just because I hate this state with a burning passion. I wish it would fucking get nuked. It's like living in a 3rd world counry. Fuck LA and fuck California in general!!!

Re: I fucking hate Los Angeles
I grew up in an L.A. suburb and while it was the 70s and still a damned nice place to live, it started to change. Too many people moved in, they cut down all the orange and avocado groves to build housing, and then it got very 3rd world.

It used to be a beautiful place but I live in the Midwest now, after a long stretch in the southwest, and I don't miss L.A. at all.

In fact sometimes I have nightmares about it.

Yes, if I had to live in the states, northern California, Sonoma Valley, is the most appealing.

How is it in North CA? I hear its wayyyy better.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7839103

Well, this might offend some southern Californians. Not my intent. This is just my opinion. The San Francisco Bay Area has a lot more culture, and real, actual CITY...not a conglomeration of lots of suburbs like L.A. is. There's an actual downtown in San Francisco. In L.A., you wouldn't want to be "downtown" at night, and in the daytime it's a monolithic concrete jungle with no mixed-use buildings. People, again imo, are more cultured and less self-centered in northern CA. I guess it's the Hollywood thing, but I've never been anywhere in my life that's so self-absorbed, self-centered, shallow, and superficial as southern California. It's all about what you drive, what you look like, and very little to do with what you have to offer as an individual. Vapid, surface, mind-numb conversations are rampant. I'll stop there. LOL Again, just my opinion (but a pretty informed one, as I've been there a lot throughout my life). And the traffic and crime? Awful. Traffic is bad in the Bay Area, too. The Bay Area has BART -- a great rapid transit "subway" system (runs above ground, too...also goes under the bay). L.A.'s "Red Line" is a joke. No one wants to give up being seen in their shiny, new car. Material possessions define southern California. The Kardashians, believe it or not, are a fairly accurate indicator of southern California. NOT EVERYONE...of course. But it's definitely a large segment of the population.
 Quoting: Thor's Hamster

+1... good summary! Plus the air is breathable.
 Quoting: GFX guy

Born in Los Angeles, lived at the beach for the first 30 years, now inland for the last 20. To be honest, L.A. is not a place to visit. I've always felt sorry for people who spend money from other places to visit L.A. and Hollywood. It's dirty, crowded, sprawling(and not in a good way) and expensive, and has little historical value.

That said, it's home to people. I personally live in a small rural community on the outskirts of L.A. and people here are pretty normal, and I'm not surround by traffic, which I now will not ever move back to. I do think the shallowness and ugliness of people everywhere has grown (as has everything negative since the advent of the internet, rap, texting, facebook, etc.)

Los Angeles has a lot of industry also. Still quite a bit of aerospace here as well as the media industry obviously.

One thing is for sure. The weather is pretty damn great.
We may be almost out of water, but we can wear flip-flops year round if we feel like it. We've had a few days of cloudy weather this week, and I'm over it. I want my sun.

Regarding Nor Cal. My hubby is from S.F. We did the long distance thing for years, so I know the city. Although I really did enjoy S.F., the people there are really stuck up. I never knew they had such an issue with So. Cal. until I started visiting there. Every time I'd mention where I was from people would start to put the whole of So Cal down. I can tell you, Southern Californians never really give Northern Californians much thought. We certainly don't sit around talking about them, but apparently this is a common thought process up north.

Re: I fucking hate Los Angeles
I lived in Gardena for a few months, once. lol. LA county, not Hollywood, but right next to practically.

What I thought was silly was the "ghetto's." The ghetto's looked like NICE suburbs with in-ground pools in the backyards. From what I understood the gangs and stuff were a big deal, though. I only witnessed some people in some kind of brawl in some suburb(inglewood) once- some guy was pointing a gun at some other guy and yelling and stuff. I was in the backseat of a car peaking out the window and praying he wouldn't shoot, lol. He didn't.

Hollywood is so SPACEY, there's so much room. Even santa monica... so clean and roomy and new. Even venice beach. Everything is newer, the design and layout is so much neater and cleaner. Not like dirty old NYC or other older cities where the ghetto's look like ghetto's, run down buildings and potholes in the sidewalks so bad it's dangerous for you to WALK around there literally without risking tripping, etc. LA is so FLAT, too. That's what I remember, so when it rained the ONE TIME THAT IT DID, we all got up on the roof and watched the sky... it was like a treat to see clouds in the sky. And you could see so much of it, like that, cause the land was so flat.

People are more laid back on the west coast than on the east coast, I noticed, too. And there were so many homeless people, so many.
