There was an article not too long ago about China and US in the pacific waiting for an ET. Does ET necessarily mean little green/gray men or can it mean asteroid, meteor, etc? Everything I read led me to think it could be an asteroid also but nothing was recently close enough until this 0.7. Just curious. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24613830 Thank you again, guys n gals! Possible meaning of ET is also "Extenction Threat" ~Gr@y Believer~ |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 24613830 United States 10/07/2012 02:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My bad. Article said extraterrestrial. I was being lazy. What is data arc span? I found a generalized definition but what is it? I know I ask a lot of questions but I promise I will never forget the answers. So what does data arc span mean? 129 observations? That's kind of buggy too. I mean, if I look at a car driving crooked off, say, 1000 miles, I could possibly determine where it's going to end up. Especially if I checked 129 times. Wonder what factors made Mr. / Mrs. Scientist change his/her mind. If it just showed up, then where'd it come from? What keeps knocking stuff out of the asteroid belt if that's where these all of a dissension are coming from. |

I think this is pretty big when you compare it to the size of a bus, like the one that went by a few months ago that they told us about a day or two before it flew by. So far though, there's nothing in the msm news. DOOM! always near, never here. |

I'd like to see them, please. Thank you in advance! :) Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24613830 30 times as in 30 times ~farther~. Half a football field was hiding until the 5th? And they looked at it 129 times in 24 hours give or take and are kinda hoping it's 158,000 to 167,000 miles away? It just showed up on Space Weather today. Maybe, lol, msm doesn't know or doesn't care? I'm laughing because it hurts giving msm the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, I'd really like to know where to look. |

I appreciate all of the awesome help too. What factors would determine an impact trajectory? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24613830 I justed checked with Spttin Cesium on Nin's solar thread and it is possible that the magnetotail of the magnetosphere could maybe perturb an asteroid but there are some big 'ifs' there. Nosy, inquisitive, take your pick, but I saw the aurora for the first time this year, first meteor shower and adding an asteroid to that collection of firsts in one year would be amazing! Unless it hits somewhere like a fault connected to something major. Or a town, etc. Otherwise, I'd truly love to glimpse it. So if our magnetosphere being amped like, say, from a CME would affect the trajectory, then what? |

I for one, have learned a lot about a wide variety of subjects... There are always some shitty threads and posters, but you just have to exit those and go on to the next one. Threads like this are great, OP (the person who started this thread) has a sharp eye and shared what she discovered. Other GLPrs who have more knowlege on the subject then provide very informative info.. and we learn as we go. I do my best to see what is posted at least once a day on GLP..then there are days like today. I've spent hours catching up on the Louisiana sinkhole situation. GLP'rs are the best! |

So if our magnetosphere being amped like, say, from a CME would affect the trajectory, then what? I'm not sure what, but something is disturbing our magnetosphere the past hour or so and so I asked on Nin's thread if an incoming asteroid could casue it? I also didn't know if the moon was inside or outside our magnetosphere and it turns out its outside for the most part except when it is behind the earth in the magnetotail.
