Anonymous Coward User ID: 5327118 United States 10/07/2012 03:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It didn't sound to me like anybody was "freakin out", just having on on-line discussion about an interesting topic of NEOs just showing up out of the blue, when some objects are found and identified YEARS ahead of time so far out as to be ridiculus, so its that paradox thats intriquing. Quoting: Isis One It's the "Doom on" posts I was referring to. To comment on the out of the blue portion, as many eyes as we have looking upward we are still covering a pathetic percentage of the sky. Even though a football-field sized object sounds huge, you are looking for it from a million miles away. It's harder than tracking ants from the top of the Empire State Building. We could be, and have been, hit by meteorites that were never spotted prior. The Tunguska Event was an object around a similar size, so I wouldn't get too excited about doom on this one. |
kcdub0184 User ID: 4542867 United States 10/07/2012 03:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How would you all approach each day if you knew you literally created it and everyone in it? Wouod you be more confident in your day to day. Would you ever feel intimidated? Would you ever look outside yourself for the answer to what/why/how? No because you wouod be the master and chief and would impose your will on every single situation without regard. Propaganda and every aspect of life has told us to victimize ourself ...that we are not in control... i believe this is the unvailing. This is all you should be asking yourself at this moment. What if im rite? Then that would mean it is as simple as believing you can manifest the world around you. My theory is Time is about to stop and we will have that moment where we can create our own paradise if we stay conscious and dont fall victim to fear which wouod create the illussion of being along for the ride instead of being in the drivers seat. Sorry op way off subject. And where it will be visible from? Quoting: CitizenX1 Hey dude: Off topic, but I noticed you dont have ay karma yet. *Gives some green* Fairly new to GLP. so not sure how it all works. I just really enjoy the topics of discussion on here. But hey, Thanks! Well welcome to GLP... Here's hoping you enjoy the site as much as many of us do... I for one, have learned a lot about a wide variety of subjects... There are always some shitty threads and posters, but you just have to exit those and go on to the next one. Threads like this are great, OP (the person who started this thread) has a sharp eye and shared what she discovered. Other GLPrs who have more knowlege on the subject then provide very informative info.. and we learn as we go. I do my best to see what is posted at least once a day on GLP..then there are days like today. I've spent hours catching up on the Louisiana sinkhole situation. GLP'rs are the best! This is a great site for those of us who are willing to view the world with an open mind. But yes, I have come across some pretty amusing posts already. So I just laugh and move on from them. Thank you for the welcome by the way. DOOM! always near, never here. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 24613830 United States 10/07/2012 03:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5327118 Why exactly is that number concerning? There are NEO's found less than a month ago at 30 times the closest approach that have over 500. Seriously, you guys freak out over the most half analyzed stuff... It didn't sound to me like anybody was "freakin out", just having on on-line discussion about an interesting topic of NEOs just showing up out of the blue, when some objects are found and identified YEARS ahead of time so far out as to be ridiculus, so its that paradox thats intriquing. Thank you, Isis. I'm not freaking out. I just want to know. Nosy, inquisitive, take your pick, but I saw the aurora for the first time this year, first meteor shower and adding an asteroid to that collection of firsts in one year would be amazing! Unless it hits somewhere like a fault connected to something major. Or a town, etc. Otherwise, I'd truly love to glimpse it. So if our magnetosphere being amped like, say, from a CME would affect the trajectory, then what? I'm not sure what, but something is disturbing our magnetosphere the past hour or so and so I asked on Nin's thread if an incoming asteroid could casue it? I also didn't know if the moon was inside or outside our magnetosphere and it turns out its outside for the most part except when it is behind the earth in the magnetotail. I'm not sure where the moon is now in relation to the magnetotail. I think that may be the CME but then again that wasn't supposed to be here til the 8th. Really good question about an asteroid incoming or even close enough to cause it to act up. How close does something have to be? I'll look for that thread. I'd like to know also. :) |

So a whole island or. New York or Rome? Pretty awful thought. :/ It is, but take into account the odds of it hitting a densely populated area. With all the water and open land around, I'll take those odds any day. |
