Re: Memory foam mattresses
I have one, but mine has the cooling gel stuff too. I absolutely love mine and wouldnt trade it for the world. It did take a few days for it to get to room temp as I bought it last winter and had to wear long sleeve shirts to bed at first..BRRRR but its perfect perfect perfect..My husband and I love it!

Re: Memory foam mattresses
i had a 30 day trail with a memory foam. didnt like it. the 'delay' when you shift position is awful. laying on top of dips and bumps. the impression thats left takes too long to rectify its self

dont recall a smell though. it was a tempur. cost a bomb. not for me though

so i went back to my solid latex mattress but i really needs replacing

i was considering the new alternative and 'octo' something or other - its 'sprung' like a traditional bed, but the 'springs are octagonal 'tubes'. anyway, it allows the flow of air, unlike solid foam. more support than a regular mattress, but none of the annoying 'dip delay'

better temperature control and the air movement is healthier for you and the mattress

gonna try one out, i think

anyway, i digress a little. im not surprised some folk get strange symptoms from spending hours in close proximity to a bunch of chemicals

Re: Memory foam mattresses
There is a brand "Tempra-pedic" in the US, and then several other have knock-offs of this pioneering technology. The "real" one costs more, but it doesn't have those awful chemicals, etc.

If you bought it at a reputable mattress store, they should exchange it for you. Especially if you have to go on the Local Consumer Advocate TV show and shame them publicly for selling such crap. In general, during the first 30 days or so, you'll get a courtesy replacement for something of equal or greater cost. After that initial period you may get a percentile of the initial costs. Maybe you want to think about keeping this style of foam mattress or going back to a conventional type mattress and box spring??

just get a pillowtop regular mattress,i cant even feel the springs at all,its like sleeping on a cloud

Re: Memory foam mattresses
have a spliff before you go to bed

you can sleep on a hard concrete floor or a feather matress ... it makes no difference

with a spliff, you will sleep like a log, and wake up with a 'smile'

if you sleep on a bed and you are having problems, you are 'possibly' overweight

go to gym 5 times a week and get healthy ... you will sleep well

Re: Memory foam mattresses
I thought I'd do a quick search of memory foam. I bought a two hundred dollar pillow three months ago and I've had a face rash, hematoma and swollen eyes every morning. I've spent all this time trying to narrow down what I'm allergic to. Slept with my old feather pillow last night and I am already much better.

Re: Memory foam mattresses
Had the memory foam pad but hubby complained it was too hot, and I thought it was better than just the mattress.
I got rid of it and have a high end New Zealand sheepskin wool bed pad and have to say it is so much better than the foam. I have zero aches now and no back problems in the mornings.

Re: Memory foam mattresses
Hiya,
A couple of months ago I bought a memory foam mattress,it is comfortable but my wife and I have had nothing but aches and pains and flu like symptoms since buying it.
After a little 'light' research I find that some manufacturers use toxic chemicals in the production of the mattresses, has anyone else bought/used one and experienced the same kind of symptoms?

cheers

Pretty much the same here. It smelled badly when I first got it. I thought the odor would dissipate, but it didn't. After suffering nausea, aches etc. for a week I gave up. It was a top o' the line memory foam to the tune of $2600 which I was able to recoup, fortunately.

Thanks for posting.

cheers

Re: Memory foam mattresses
I bought a Tempur-Pedic about a year ago. I had to let it air out for about a month as it gave off a chemical smell. I never got sick from it, though. Make sure you use a waterproof sheet with it. That might help some. I've had spring mattresses my whole life and have had terrible lower back problems when waking up. Ever since my memory foam mattress, all of my back problems have gone away. Maybe give it a little more time unless there is a window to return it.

Re: Memory foam mattresses
Memory Foam mattresses are KNOWN to release gasses. period. Look for an organic mattress. I have a "californian" (rather new brand) that is made of natural latex, bamboo fiber, and one other ingredient I cannot think of at the moment....best bed EVER!

Stay away from Tempur-Pedic, and all the knock offs.

Natural latex are also good, bu they are twice as heavy as TP, and quite pricey....but will not gassify you to sickness.

Thank You China...They don't care about their own people, but don't worry they would never poison the people in the UK or America.

Bought a new mattress 6 mos. ago.. I could have bought a memory foam mattress.. but went with a high end Stearns and Foster.. ($1,600).. because it was by far much more comfortable.. I think the memory foam is a fad and will die out as they are not good to sleep on! And they smell toxic as hell!

What about the sleep number beds? Those have any memory foam like this? Need a new mattress and that's what I'd like to get.

Re: Memory foam mattresses
hate them

we bought one, and I found your body heat gets concentrated under you, and you get very hot during the night, in the spot directly under you.

that can't be good for you. probably creates the ideal temps for bugs to thrive, and that's why you get colds and flus.

Thanks for posting, because I was wondering if I wanted one of those... Now, I think not. I think I'll go for an all-natural, certified non-toxic mattress, instead. You should demand a refund.
