Memory foam mattresses

Wow. First I've heard of something like this. I guess it's possible!



Maybe someone has some info about this!!!

I'd like to know too. I don't have a memory foam mattress but I have a memory foam pillow. No flu like symptoms but who knows what else it could be doing.

Let it air then seal it in a case made for bed wetters. That or get rid of it..

Glad you posted,I sorta forgot that I also have a memory foam pillow,ain't getting old and forgetful great?

I am just trying to find what is causing our crappy health and since the latest change I can ring is the mattress it's where my attention is going.
Apparently certain agencies are highlighting the problem with the chemicals used affecting the environment,I would think that residues exist in the finished product though.

I will do some deeper research later today and post back here with any relevant findings ....laters.

Just ordered a 'normal' sprung mattress,at least it eliminates it as the cause or proves.

Memory foam stores bacteria so much easier than spring mattresses, it's likely yours is a home to a nice little family of spores from the manufacturer or shipper.

Hi. I work at hickory springs- look it up its all over the net. we manufacture memory foam and I will give u some in sight. There are too many to mention chemicals in memory foam and also regular foam to mention but,

As the foam cures after the poring process bugs seem attracted to it and get on it and die. The foam is poured in like 7 by two hundred foot lenghts. The chemicals are highly toxic and often catch on fire as they cure. But once cured they still make some employees break out in a bad rash. They have to wear pretective gear so they can handle it. Once cured and then covered I dont KNOW IF IT WOULD BOTHER SOME ONE OR NOT BUT WHAT i HAVE SEEN i WOULD NOT DOUT IT.

I just bought one, now am worried.

That one is going to off-gas chemicals for a while too because it's new (unless you went high range and bought organic).

Once you've developed one chemical sensitivity, it's easy enough to be triggered by others...take it from the canary in the coal mine.

I bought a Tempur-Pedic about a year ago. I had to let it air out for about a month as it gave off a chemical smell. I never got sick from it, though. Make sure you use a waterproof sheet with it. That might help some. I've had spring mattresses my whole life and have had terrible lower back problems when waking up. Ever since my memory foam mattress, all of my back problems have gone away. Maybe give it a little more time unless there is a window to return it.

I have been using memory Foam mattresses for years. Used a cheap knockoff first and then upgraded to a Serta (think thats the name...)

Anyhow, no problems at all- best night sleep ever and I couldnt imagine not having one.

I wouldn't trade my Tempurpedic for it's weight in gold.............

A friend's neighbor had one and nearly died. Memory foam are extremely dangerous from what I understand and there are MANY lawsuits against the company.

Omg my husband and I have had our memory foam for one month....he has had a month long cold ears poping just overall sick feeling. This mattress was too expensive for this shit.

Iv got a memory foam matteress and have had it for about a year.
I have noticed no ill effects from it but it does have organic written all over it so guess im ok????

Yep, same thing happened to me and my wife, aches, joint pain flu-like symptoms. After we got rid of our memory foam all symptoms went away.

My husband and I bought a 3 inch memory foam mattress pad from Sears.. maybe a year ago? My neck hurts more than it used to, and I have worse sinus problems than I did before (and they were already bad).

There is a brand "Tempra-pedic" in the US, and then several other have knock-offs of this pioneering technology. The "real" one costs more, but it doesn't have those awful chemicals, etc.

If you bought it at a reputable mattress store, they should exchange it for you. Especially if you have to go on the Local Consumer Advocate TV show and shame them publicly for selling such crap. In general, during the first 30 days or so, you'll get a courtesy replacement for something of equal or greater cost. After that initial period you may get a percentile of the initial costs. Maybe you want to think about keeping this style of foam mattress or going back to a conventional type mattress and box spring??

But consider storing it as a guest bed and buying a new one.

You are an idiot. Mem foam are near hypo-alergenic because by nature, they are very dense andwont allow shit to settle in such as a standard bed which is a very loose, natural fiber which allows dust, dead skin cells, and nasty shit into it.

OP-- ALL mattresses off-gas for a couple of weeks, but depending on the cheapness of the model you had--and you know which is the king daddy out there--some off-gas more than others and may be more prone to causing sinus issues.

ALL foam mattresses are tested for tested for these matters and are not put to market if they did.

I suggest you didn't give it enough time to finish off- gassing (2-3 weeks at most) or you bought a lesser brand that is not medically graded--such as the king daddy.

Besides, the hi quality foam matresses will last many years longer.

We had the same experience, got rid of it after 6 months.

well I couldn't afford a tempur pedic, I got a 2 inch memory foam pad from walmarts and my arthritic body cushions nicely on it and I like it. it is covered, I don't like anything like that too close to skin. I let it air a time as suggested to de gas it. its been fine.

Hands up,I never was told or realised that mattresses had to be allowed to degas,or whatever the term is.
I do seem to remember reading on the packaging that it would be all right for use after 'settling' for around twelve hours.
