Your right to resell your own stuff is in peril

It could become illegal to resell your iPhone 4, car or family antiques

Tucked into the U.S. Supreme Courtís busy agenda this fall is a little-known case that could upend your ability to resell everything from your grandmotherís antique furniture to your iPhone 4.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20610884

Will the current justices be seating in their seats this fall? i doubt it. They refused to oust the illegal immigrant in the white house. They refused to honor the OATH they took to uphold the US Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic.....the next POTUS could
remove all of them for violating their OATH of office.

stay tuned....i think this current court of justices is history
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23975430

a VOTE for Mitt Romney is a VOTE for Ron Paul...i read where the electoral college has demanded proof from POTUS candidates of their eligibility...they will not cast their vote for another ineligible POTUS.

Romney is not a natural born citizen
Obama is not a citizen...

Therefore, it is a very good possibility that the electoral college will elect Ron Paul, counting all Mitt Romney's votes, and give them to Ron Paul who is still a RNC Candidate.

The beauty of the electoral college is, the two parties do not have access to the names in the college, it's secret; i don't think even other states know who they are other than their own state.

If Ron Paul is elected; you can say adios to the setting justices. You can also say adios to the Federal Reserve Board and a slew of wasteful spending agencies....Ron Paul will trim the government and he will balance the budget...at his age, he has nothing to lose politically; by setting america back on track as a REPUBLIC, and getting rid of acts of congress that go against the US Constitution...i.e. Obamacare, Dodd-Frank, and all other spending out of control acts of congress.

Can you imagine a Honda dealership? "Yeah, we'll give you $2,000 trade-in value for your 2010 Accord.". "WTF?" "OK, don't take our offer -- you're not allowed to sell it at all now".

They uphold this and the economy goes KABOOOOOOM.

It would stimulate the economy wouldn't it? Shut down ebay and craigslist resales and make people buy newly manufactured stuff.

Agree, though, it's insane, a terrible idea. Sounds like just the sort of crap John Roberts (traitor) would vote for.

I am really starting to like this idea. I take back the "traitor" comment at least as far as the upcoming SCOTUS vote goes.

Is there any other way to tell the WTO to fuck off and stimulate demand for domestic products? This would really work!! And I don't see what the WTO could do about it.

What do you think the average person works in a life time? how much free time do they have, over time spent working.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14103869

[link to www.whydowork.com]

I've been thinking recently about how short life is and, on average, how much of it we spend working. I decided to do some calculations and see exactly how our time is used. If we consider that an average working week is 40 hours then that equates to 1,960 hours per year once annual holidays are deducted. That's 22.4% of our lives, not including any overtime that we may be required to complete.

I took it a step further because I was intrigued how many hours that we spend working in an average lifetime. This is where things really add up. Allowing for school and tertiary education, let's assume that the average person begins their working life at age 21 and retires at 65. That's a career that spans 44 years. If we use the same 40-hour working week we arrive at a figure of 91,250 hours!

That's a huge amount of time and accordingly it's a huge proportion of our lives that is consumed in this way. The average human life expectancy in developed countries is 78 years, which means that we sleep for about 205, 000 hours. All our other chores and tasks have to be done in the remaining time which means that there's often very little time left for relaxation and leisure.

I could go on quoting facts and figures but I'm sure you understand the point. It all begs the obvious questions: "are we happy with this?" and "does it really need to be this way?"

Perhaps, but, if it becomes law it will be another nail in the coffin..another lame excuse for them to fine/imprison us, if they are looking for a reason to put us out of commission for a while..beat us down with fines, keep us dependent on them...
think......what if they took it a step further and shipped offenders to the countries who had their copyright infringed upon, or allowed those countries to punish us under their law?? think Sharia/Islam..good way to get rid of some...not saying they would take it that far, but, who knows...
Once it is in the books, there is no stopping them..
Why even let them get their foot in the door with this?

Itisnot about "problem": they never had the HOARDING law before now.

You will have to tax the buyer:
If you cannot sell your stuff (cannot find buyers), youwillhave to keep it. Youwill then be charged with HOARDING, and your stuff will be stolen legally, and that is the Mafia way (Mafia mentality).

Weare in deep denial of the fact that the Mafia has taken over our government.

I'm no lawyer, and I don't play one on TV!!! But it seems to me that an arguement can be made that (1) I worked to earn the money (2) I paid Federal and State taxes on that income (3) I probably paid a Sales Tax on whatever item I bought. Thus (4) that item should totally belong to me should I decide to sell it, or even put it on the front lawn and set fire to it (unless a burn ban is in effect!)

If you want to have a yard sale, you'll have to get a permit from the IRS Police, needing a list of all the items, a list of all corporate creators of the items, in order to set the prices on all items, which is not flexible and expecting X% tax on what sells. An on site audit will occur at the end of the set sale schedule and all monies will be collected for proper dispersal to all parties concerned.

All Corporate creators will be contacted and told of the resale of their licensed property and asked if they want their piece of your pie. They are entitled as they have the same rights as an individual. If there is no response in ten days, they relinquish this right. If they respond, they are elligable for half the money received.

You, the yard sale operator, can expect the remaining funds within 6-10 weeks.

Thank you for shopping at my yard sale.

Re: Upcoming Supreme Court case : Can you resell your own stuff???
The court case involves a person that was buying college text books here in the USA. The cost was huge, hundreds of dollars per book. He found that in Asia, the SAME book was only $50.

Same book, by the same publisher.
(The publisher had been PAID for the book, as well as the author.)

The man contacted his friends and relatives in Asia and they bought up these books and sent them to the USA. The man sold the books on Ebay, making over $1.2 million.

The publisher is irate. They feel they should get $500 per book if that book is sold in the USA.

But, they sold the SAME book in Asia for $50.

The federal appellate court decided that US citizens can only resell items that were made here in the USA.

This wasn't the Chinese doing a cheap knock-off and infringing on patents or copyrights. THE PUBLISHER WAS PAID on the books that had been produced in Asia.

THINK ABOUT THIS.

Yes, there are going to be all kinds of problems "selling your stuff". But the UNDERLYING message is important.

If you live in the USA...you MUST pay $500 for the same item that is sold by the same manufacturer for $50 in Asia.

WHY? Why should it be required by law, that the people in the USA pay 10 times more for a product that what it sells for in Asia???

And all of that manufacturing that we outsourced to Asia, that is really going to bite us in the butt now.

This is nothing different than it is in Europe. There are similar laws there which just created a "blackmarket" craigslist that the government has absolutely no control over and people continue to sell their items there with ease. They have absolutely no means of enforcing this.

this is basically a tariff. They took off the tariff for Corporate Society, and are now putting it back, but of course in a perverted manner, on us.

Deanna Spingola | 2010-10-07 - One cannot claim to cherish both sovereignty and accept free trade, through "multinational trade organizations and global financial conglomerates." Marx, a mouthpiece minion for the elite, advocated both the income tax and free trade. He said of free trade, "it breaks up old nationalities" and eliminates the "bourgeoisie" (small businessmen). Free trade functions to equalize the masses while elevating the elite and their acquiescent political devotees.

what needs to be examined is what law enables them to tax in the first place and to see why it didn't include private sale.

there must be a reason and it may well be still valid.
