Salt I read it twice now.

If you choose to form your understanding of this concept based on the misguided interpretations of some organized belief system and misunderstanding about the nature of the phenomena itself, I don't know what to tell you. I choose to look at tangible experiences of individuals who were studied and experienced circumstances/occurrences that modern science cannot explain with traditional 'reasoning'. You seem to want to avoid the more concrete evidence for the phenomena. That's your choice though and I respect it.

I trust being on a conspiracy forum that you at least understand why the 'churches' do not want their followers subscribing to the idea of reincarnation? Once a person contemplates on that for a bit it's understood why that interpretation is hosted on the website that you linked to. How do you control a person who believes he/she will be reborn again?
 Quoting: ANHEDONIC

Dear Anhedonic, I've put this on other threads, but can't find them in advanced search. Alan Watt is hardly an advocate of "the churches", and here's what he says about it:

"Amoral, Senseless and Hopeless.

Since reincarnation is a belief basic to witchcraft, it is not surprising that it is amoral. Instead of solving the problem of evil, it perpetuates it. If a husband beats his wife, the cause-and-effect law of karma decrees that he must be reincarnated as a wife who is beaten by her husband. That husband (who will have been prepared by his karma to be a wife beater) will in turn have to come back as a wife beaten by her husband, and so forth endlessly. The perpetrator of each crime must become the victim of the same crime, which necessitates another perpetrator, who in turn must become a subsequent victim at the hands of another ad infinitum, ad absurdum. Rather than solving the problem of evil, karma and reincarnation perpetuate it. Think of the evil that must yet be perpetrated upon future reincarnations of Hitler…"

Alan: And we add all the rest to that too, Stalin and all the rest of them.

"…in order to pay for his crimes! With few alleged exceptions, the average person has no recollection of the many past lives that he or she has supposedly lived. Without any memory of previous mistakes and lessons learned, what is the point of living again and again only to bear the burden of bad karma and the dire consequences of deeds one cannot remember? It's argued that subconsciously we have such memories (which can be induced and dealt with through hypnotherapy) and are thus benefiting at an unconscious level. If that were true, we should see evidence that humans individually and collectively, are living better more divine lives. That is patently not the case. Reincarnation is thus a senseless philosophy.

That reincarnation is also hopeless follows logically. The karma built up in the present life must be worked off in a future reincarnation. But in the process of working it off, more karma is accumulated, which must in turn be worked off in the next life and so forth endlessly. This is why the Hindu speaks of the wheel of reincarnation and why Gandhi called it reincarnation "a burden too great to bear." There's no release; it goes on forever. Yoga was developed as a means of escape from this endless wheel of death and rebirth, but whether it actually is or not must be taken by faith. And faith and efficacy of amoral and senseless laws whose existence is not supported by the facts but appear to be misplaced."

time and time again in Buddhism scripture you will find
references to "release from this oppressive round of rebirths". this is the very essence to the Buddha teaching;
in short: Nirvana is release from the "neverending round of rebirths".

I have found happiness in your thread op!!! It is a wonderful thread and I am glad you posted it. Thank you. A very smart and wise soul once told me that all religions have it wrong. The closest one to get it right is Buddhism. I believe the soul who shared their wisdom with me. I am glad you are sharing your wisdom as well. hf

Yes and when things get way more than a minds desire to ride the bliss aurora of psyche.

Self immolation is a way some take....it is like if they can not have that happy place by having enough happy environment to summons it or conjure it up into their happy serine mind psyche........

Death is their way to blissfulness.

So basically it is a self servicing way to serve the self with blissful balance and serenity....a self achieved peace in the mind yet when the body is tested with fire of unprovided bodily pampering space and way to stoke up their secret room...

They commit suicide or many other things just as bad...in history records are full of such things and ways.

What ever you want or look to find test it against time space and conflagration see if it will hold up to the fire.
So you do not destroy your own self or others because you mind can not handle reality.

If people would be spiritually more developed they would see many former lives of them. Then the matter of reincarnation would not be a beliefe but knowledge.

Buddhist monks who self immolate do so to protest serious social injustices such as the Vietnam war or the curresnt oppression of Tibet. I have never heard of a Buddhist lighting himself on fire because of bliss addiction and withdrawal or psychosis--as this poster suggests.

I get that this poster wants to make Buddhism seem frightening and dangerous and cult like. I wish Christians would get down with the one about thou shalt NOT bear false witness against thy neighbor.

OP--I've really enjoyed your thread. Tonight, it was just what I needed to pull out of a funk. Thanks again!

For a while, I was involved in Buddhism--had been interested for a long time;it is beautiful and I did not feel that it conflicted with my religion.

But then I was a victim of a violent home invasion which I luckily survived.

I made arrangements that if anything else like that ever happened I would kill the mofkrs, with absolutely no remorse. That ended my venture into Buddhism.

(Great thread, though--5 stars)

So tired of westerner hippie who only see one aspect of "Buddhism". You are wrong, Buddhism is a religion, you guys mostly have a wishy-washy conception of half-baked pseudo-Zen...budddhism is more than Zen, why don't you put down the new-age paperback Zen and read some academic papers about Buddhist history, doctrine, etc... read about different sects and traditions within Buddhism u will see it is very much a "religion" like any other with rituals, superstitions, etc, but it's probably pointless to talk to u because people see what they want to see.

Don't get me wrong I dont bash Budhism only the shallow new-age Westerner version that ignores 90% of the reality and focus only on "spirituality not religion." pick

It doesn't matter how you "feel" about a "religion", it's a question of What is the Truth?
Is Christianity the truth, or is it a lie? Is Mohammadism the truth, or a lie? Is anything the truth, or is it a lie? You want to find the truth, no matter what it is, and don't worry about how it makes you feel, serenity or not.

Re: Why I pick Buddhism over Religion, and achieve a higher level of serenity over religious people
Buddhism is a spiritual tradition that focuses on personal spiritual development and the attainment of a deep insight into the true nature of life.

Buddhism teaches that all life is interconnected, so compassion is natural and important.

Buddha was not a God.

He never claimed to be a God.

He never claimed to be a son of God.

He never claimed to be a mesasnger of God.

He was a man who achieved Nivana through human effort.

Buddha did not have an ego, unlike jesus and muhammad. His teachings were simple to help others on the path of enlightenment, not to sustain a state of power and importance.

Buddha, like Jesus and Mohammad are examples of what we are all capable of. If everyone achieved this state of consciousness we would all be basking in the divine ecstasy of existence at all times and each day would just be about creating beautiful things.

Buddhists believe that nothing is fixed or permanent - change is always possible
- unlike most religions which promote and endure violence due to not being able to accept the way society has changed because the books (bible, qu'ran) Have a firm set of rules which you must follow or you will be punished), ie, the way we dress, the way we eat, who can love who. the way we live in general.

Now we've all seen the protests and violence which came from a recent video depicting one mans opinion. Both sides of the argument are wrong and should not carry on what they are doing, as all they are bringing to the world are pain, death and fear. Nothing positive, which is what they think they are doing.

Why Buddhist could help save this entire world from self destruction:

Non-violence is at the heart of Buddhist thinking and behaviour. The first of the five precepts that all Buddhists should follow is "Avoid killing, or harming any living thing."

Buddhism is essentially a peaceful tradition. Nothing in Buddhist scripture gives any support to the use of violence as a way to resolve conflict.

''In times of war
Give rise in yourself to the mind of compassion,
Helping living beings
Abandon the will to fight.''

Figures like the Dalai Lama (who won the Nobel Peace Prize) demonstrate in word and deed Buddhism's commitment to peace.

"Hatred will not cease by hatred, but by love alone.
This is the ancient law."

And now a few quotes from Buddha

“Change is never painful; Only resistance to change is painful.”

''Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned. ''

''To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.''

''We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. ''

''Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.''

''Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship.''

I'm a Buddhist who follows Christ.

Thank you for posting this information. hf
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24831007

I feel sorry for you, can't be Christian if you're looking for Buddha.
A Christian wants the Holy Spirit to give him the understanding in living the way God has given us the knowledge; to find the light of faith by cleaning the consciouness of temptations and avoid making sins.
Man's knowledge can't have the same weight like God's.
I guess you believe but not sure what Christianity is abvout (and not talking about masked papistacy - catolicism no way - and Jesus haters of sects and cults).
If you want to feel "like nothing", you actually turn your back to Jesus Christ.
The same with Yoga, if you think is no religion, think again - everything is the outer shell of invoking dark spirits of death and demonic.
