Do you really think it is okay to keep borrowing money from China to keep the station on the air?

Here you can see a debt portrait of the USA from 1791-2011, it's in german language but you don't have to undertand german to read the graph:

[link to www.sgipt.org]

You can see that it really became worse up from the 80ies, the decade of Reagan. What you can't see in this graph is that in the last 30 years there was only one president who was able to decrease the debts, that was Clinton. The Bushs made it all worse and under Obama in became worse too.

IF you say that democrats would be the only debt-makers you show only that you are abolutely naive and clueless.

Let's just say that Romney has been more successful in changing the narrative on the national stage than you have been in changing it in this thread.

Seems that since the debate, the dems are clinging to the PBS/Sesame Street joke Romney threw out there. All i see is dem joke after dem joke making fun of Romney's joke about Big Bird.

Seriously?

Do you really think it is okay to keep borrowing money from China to keep the station on the air?

is that the only thing you have to cling to?
 Quoting: Salt

How about cutting the 4 billion dollar a year tax break subsidy to the oil and gas industry? PBS only gets 450 million a year.

Romney has no problem with corporate welfare.

Just in case you didn't know this, Barry is currently the president and has been for the last 3-1/2 years. If he was so fucking worried about subsidies to oil companies why hasn't he already fixed it, dipshit?

Why not ask dems Bill Gates or Oprah to pay for Big Bird? While I applaud her work ethic, does Oprah REALLY need a mansion in every state? Certainly better than getting a loan from the Chinese.

Problem is, since it is supported by the government, it only spews government-approved dribble. Of course, NPR is even WORSE and should also get the hatchet.

i'm in my mid-40s. pbs was ALWAYS publicly funded up until a very short time ago. PBS gets funding from a variety of sources. it is my opinion that if America finds their "american classroom" so important that they would be glad to support it thru donating like it was always done.

this country is broke as fuck.. big bird needs help from private funding, not federal support.
 Quoting: Salt

It was my understanding that PBS ALWAYS was Federally funded, as WELL as receiving donations from the Public. At least, it seems like every time I watch a program on PBS they are breaking in every 15 minutes and begging for money. Very annoying.

Re: Democrats - answer this: Do you seriously think it's okay to borrow money from China to keep Big Bird on the air?
The largest holder of American debt is the American people themselves, so the question Romney should have asked is, "Should we borrow money from ourselves in order to educate our children?"

AND PBS, I believe, gets something like .01 of its budget from the federal gov't.

AND here is the kicker: Republicans want everything to be owned by private industry. If they could, they would privatize the military (actually, it already kind of is, with the private defense corporations running much of the procurement show)and everything else. But as someone said, commercial television is full of shit commercials AND you pay for those commercials when you buy the company's products. Even if I DON'T watch the commercials, I have to pay for them in everything I buy. That kind of sucks. I'd rather have the gov't throw a few dineros the way of the arts and have the people subsidize some of that.

It's not that the Dems have nothing better to talk about, it's just that they can't get over the fact that Romney "went there."

Romney's act at the debate was reminiscent of a good old AMWAY convention presentation. We don't need a well-coiffed, slick-talking, "Music Man" flimflam artist as a president. Go back and watch the debate and ask yourself, "Gee, was this how he pitched Bain Capital's hostile takeover bids?"
