Yes. Very much so. Yet at the same time our capitalist tendencies foster growth in biotech as well as computer tech. However, scholarly pursuits are at a distinct disadvantage due to not being much of a moneymaker unless they are of a heavenly persuasion.

Totally agree. It's all about being smart enough to generate money. It's a wonder Tesla made it to 86. He was an idea man, not a businessman.

Re: Do you consider America an anti-intellectual culture/society?
No. Not yet anyway.

Just look around, the anti-intellectual tendencies are all over the world, but the US is still one of the more intellectually friendly culture there is.

Not that it cannot change, unfortunately some groups and individuals that oppose this is growing and gaining power.

only in the lower classes.

The uppermost classes has the free time to discuss "intellectual" ideas.

Of course, if you weren't discussing Noam Chomsky in 12th grade, your "intellect" is basically a pile of shit sandwiches.

Don't mistake money for class, either.

The fact that US colleges give out more sports scholarships than academic/merit scholarships explain the situation. One would think that offering financial support to the gifted would pay off better than the jocks.

Yes, we're the most materialistic society of all time.
We're so dumbed down and lazy, Im suprised we don't see guys walking around wearing cathoders so they don't have to open the bathroom door or unzip their pants.

After 911 Bush asked everyone to "Go shopping!"
