There is a poll on the site asking if it is right that they prepare themselves like this. 74% say yes.

Even more stupid. The minister of defense and the head of the army think they can protect us with new fighter jets. They spin it as if jets could be used in defense and tell every lie possible to get the people behind it.

Also it's just a myth that every citizen still must have a rifle. Those times are long over. I was also a member of the swiss army once and i can tell you, the thing they are best at is smoking weed.

Given the potential for economic unrest in Europe, especially from France and Italy, planning for securing the border against fleeing refugees seems only prudent.

It will not happen and even if it does. This is clearly duty of the police force. Not something where fighter jets and fucking tanks would help in any way. Jets only help some private companies to generate more $$$ on behalf of the tax payers. There is no other use for them.

Some really weird media spin going on. I think the Swiss are trying to maintain their culture. Here in the U.S.A the government is doing the exact opposite as they actively encourage mass immigration.

Why you may ask? Because immigrants are willing to work for less benefits and lower wages than Americans citizens. It seems to me that the Swiss are trying to protect their standard of living by actively discouraging immigration.

Though I don't agree with the harassment of immigrants, I can understand the peoples fear as I wouldn't want to work for minimum wage after years of studying and working in a particular field.

The flip side is that for a particular country to be able to compete in World markets they have to be able to keep their products affordable which means lower price goods and manufacturers can only do that if they keep wages and benefits low. While I'm sure there are other ways to lower prices for goods and services, many employers automatically tend to lower employees wages by hiring someone who will work for less.
