I know we all know about the obvious hot spots. A couple that come to my mind are Yellow Stone, which is probably equivalent to a nuclear power plant, and Hot Springs, Arkansas. I wonder when we are going to surrender these to society... if ever. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 3038600 United States 10/08/2012 10:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is a main vein that runs directly from yellowstone down through the middle of utah. There are many geothermal 'hot springs' available....though many are simply used for homeless bathing. There was a time, before the springs were enclosed, when it was difficult to drive on certain parts of the freeways for all the steam that covered them in the winter time. |

DONATE TO SAVE THE SAND WORMS IN UTAH!!! By the way, did they find a super volcano, too? The western part of Utah, into Nevada was historically highly volcanic. Volcanism is still obviously present in many areas of the state. I only wonder.......where did the lava go? |

My son tried out scuba inside the crater.. Clip. Once inside, you can go swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, enjoy a therapeutic soak, or even take a paddleboard yoga class. The Crater is the only warm water scuba diving destination in the continental US and attracts many diving enthusiasts and those wishing to get certified in a comfortable environment. Pictures.. Wyoming is wealthy beyond our imaginations. It all underground! |

Quoting: BRIEF Hey Brief, haven't you been paying attention? The energy industry is exempt from the laws that were created to protect you and me from the by-products of energy production. Look into the "Halliburton Loophole" [link to www.independentwatertesting.com] This is why here on the Colorado plains east of the Rockies our air quality is now WORSE than L.A.'s. No joke. Out of a possible 10, our most recent reading is 2.9 (by NOAA, zero being the worse). Could this possibly be from the 18,000 (eighteen thousand / no I didn't add an extra zero) fracking wells they have drilled in the last few years in Weld County. NOAA Seems to think so. [link to summitcountyvoice.com] Unfortunately, the same loophole that exempts fracking from the Clean Air and Clean Water legislation the rest of us have to follow also applies to geothermal energy production. So, lucking Utah can go right ahead and exploit those geothermal vents without any regulations getting in their way. Don't you just love progress? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 3038600 United States 10/08/2012 11:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | sorry, but you should change the title.. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25143071 its not '' found '' its '''Scientists & so on DECIDED TO TELL US ... '' thank you ^^ This It's not like it's a secret! When it comes to the surface so hot that it needs to be diluted before people can use it.....it's not rocket science folks that if you drill down a little ways it will be hot enough to produce steam. AND when it comes to the surface in 20+ places warm enough to be an attraction to the locals.....it's not a secret that there is tons of it down there. Some sites see their busiest times in mid winter since that's when it's funnest go outdoor swimming. :) If you hike some of the rivers, you will see 50+ places in a single river where the geothermal activity is present. Sometimes it's just the discoloration...sometimes the smell, sometimes it's just warm enough to not freeze in the winter, but it's there. The funniest part is....some of those rivers aren't known for geothermal activity...the 'hotspring' where people swim/soak will be two canyons north or south of where you could be hiking and finding all the surface demonstrations of geothermal activity. |
