3.5 southern cali just now,following that 6.6 near antarctica.

In my experience Californians are very laxed regarding earthquakes. Everyone I know from CA doesn't have a bag in their car in case they have to walk home, nor do they have provisions in their home. They scoff at people that worry about the 'big one' happening. I am not sure what they worry about, but IMO they seem to scoff at us that get concerned when there is a large amount of shaking on their side of the ring of fire.

Well this is eery given that I was woken up by a small earthquake 25 miles away - it was only a 3.4! I can't believe we felt it here - bizarre.....

When my daughter moved to CA years ago, I mailed her emergency boxes for both her car and home and money to buy emergency food/water supplies for her home. I was in a great quake and know what it is like so she humors me.

I am a Californian.... And as prepared as i am, i don't keep my BOB in the car.... For the most part, you are right. We are lax on this kind of thing. Maybe it is because unlike the mid-west that gets tornados every year, or the south that has hurricanes every year, we have only a few large quakes and they are years apart. Most of our quakes are in the 3 range.... We are like "did you feel something...no" I guess we take it for granted that quakes are not an every year reality. That last large one was in '89, i was 11 then but i remember it. But my kids have never felt a quake.
