Many of us do actually have morals without needing a religion to tell us so.

I find it interesting that apparently, as you say, many are born without morals and that's why you need religion to guide you. It's very sad, but I can see why TPTB would bind you with religion (as retarded of a belief system as it may be). I just don't think it works very well because in general your people do nothing with it but use it to make excuses, war, be homophobic, avoid rational thought, avoid responsibility, etc. Maybe they were right to try to kill off the Christians if you truly are soulless and moral-less people without your bindings.

Quoting: The Light Under the Door

Ok, fair call. Not so much inherently evil then so much as more inclined to be self-serving as opposed to kind and helpful to others.

Prior to Jesus, people were judged by their moral codes and some (but not many) achieved an acceptable standard. Job is a good example.

Your examples:

War - Please explain how this is justified by christianity as opposed to people professing to be christians.

Catholic Inquisition. Fear of Muslims that is and has been driving the current war insanity.

Homophobia - Not scared of homosexuals at all. Love em to bits just as I love anyone else. Don't agree with homosexuality though, take that one up with God, its not for me to judge.

Your people do judge. Ask any Southern church. Even you "don't agree" with it as if you have the right to agree or disagree with what people do behind their own bedroom doors

Responsibility - Please explain?

The idea that your sins can be washed away so it's okay to make them, the idea that the better life is after death and not on this planet so that more time is invested in getting jesus brownie points rather than making this world a better place. The idea that you don't have to listen to people when they say "stop" because your god compels you. The idea that you can feel superior over someone regardless of their situation because a book tells you that you are.

We are not, by definition, soulless as we each have a soul. Morals are a different issue as everyone has a different moral compass. Regardless, we are called to higher accountability since Jesus died as we are responsible now for each sin we commit, unless we accept Jesus as sacrifice in our place.

Face it, you have no real compass or you wouldn't search for one through an outdated book full of hate and death.. You are slaves to god because you need to be, for everyone's sake and safety. It's fine, really.

Trustworthy Prophecy

The Bible also contains remarkable prophecies that were written and fulfilled in Roman times. For example, when Jesus rode into Jerusalem, he wept and foretold how the Roman armies would destroy the city. “Days will come upon you when your enemies will build around you a fortification with pointed stakes,” Jesus said. “They will not leave a stone upon a stone in you, because you did not discern the time of your being inspected.”—Luke 19:41-44.

Jesus’ followers, however, would have opportunity to escape. How so? Jesus gave them specific instructions ahead of time. “When you see Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies,” he warned, “then know that the desolating of her has drawn near. Then let those in Judea begin fleeing to the mountains, and let those in the midst of her [Jerusalem] withdraw.” (Luke 21:20, 21) Jesus’ followers may well have wondered, ‘How will we escape from a city under siege?’

Josephus recorded what happened. In 66 C.E., when a Roman governor seized from the temple treasury taxes that were in arrears, incensed Jewish rebels slaughtered Roman forces and, in effect, declared themselves independent. Later that year, Cestius Gallus, the Roman governor of Syria, marched south with 30,000 troops, arriving at Jerusalem during a religious festival. Gallus penetrated the suburbs and even began undermining the wall of the temple, where the rebels had taken refuge. Then, for no apparent reason, Gallus withdrew! Excited Jews attacked his retreating army.

Faithful Christians were not deceived by this turn of events. They realized that they had seen Jesus’ amazing prophecy come true: The city had been surrounded by encamped armies! And now, because these armies had retreated, faithful Christians took advantage of this window of opportunity to flee. Many went to Pella, a politically neutral Gentile city located in the mountains across the Jordan.

What happened to Jerusalem? The Roman armies returned, led by Vespasian and his son Titus—this time numbering 60,000 soldiers. They advanced on the city prior to the Passover of 70 C.E., trapping both residents and pilgrims who had flocked there for the celebration. Roman troops denuded the district of trees and built a wall of pointed stakes, just as Jesus had foretold. After about five months, the city fell.
The Arch of Titus in Rome

The Arch of Titus in Rome commemorates the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 C.E.

Titus ordered that the temple be preserved; but a soldier torched it, and the place was torn down stone by stone—precisely as Jesus had predicted. According to Josephus, some 1,100,000 Jews and proselytes died, the majority from starvation and pestilence, and another 97,000 were taken prisoner. Many were sent to Rome as slaves. If you visit Rome today, you can tour the famous Colosseum, which was finished by Titus after the campaign in Judea. You can also see the Arch of Titus, which commemorates the conquest of Jerusalem. Yes, Bible prophecy is trustworthy in every detail. How important, then, that we take to heart what it says about the future!

Not much, it seems.

-but I do like this:

"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not
rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

Best part of the christian holy book, imho.
Even if it's self-evident stuphph.

Shouldn't your own spirit and humanity tell you those very things?

Why do you need a religion to tell you to be good, especially one so brimming full of assholes using the religion as an excuse to hate?

Why is it not already in you? What is wrong?

Jesus was the supreme example. While He was being betrayed with a kiss by Judas one of his disciples drew a sword and cut off the ear of the high priest's servant. Jesus said then that all who live by the sword will die by the sword and Jesus then healed the ear that had been cut off. Jesus did this knowing what would shortly be done to Him at the hands of these men.

Christianity teaches us to LOVE. It teaches us to look at our fellow man with love and not with anything that would cause harm in any way to him. Unfortunately hardly anyone lives this way or if they did, the world would be turned upside down. It teaches us not to hurt, harm, or covet our brother in any way. It teaches us to treat others as we would like to be treate.

Christianity teaches us to not be hasty to be angry. That the wrath of man that not being about the will of God. It teaches us there is a hell and people are headed there. It teaches us to overcome evil with good.

Christianity teaches us that man is redeemable. It teaches us that all God desires is that the wicked person turn from his wicked ways. That God has abundant pardon for anyone.

Christianity teaches us not to be like the Muslims who riot when their prophet is evil spoke of. Chritianity teaches us to rather react in love and let God be the avenger of evil.

Honestly, I would have gladly chosen abortion. Those first few decades: being taken from my mother, sold by the church, used as a guinea pig, raised by a stranger with no care. Those are hard to forget. They still feel like this giant emptiness even after all of this time, like there's just a chasm there. There are things worse than death.
Quoting: The Light Under the Door

I am very sorry to hear you say that and cannot fathom how difficult life must have been (or maybe still is?) for you. For the longest time I felt kinda cheated due to having dysfunctionally "absent" parents for most of my youth(eg, alcholism/depression). This is definitely not how family life was meant to be.

In my case, reading the Bible greatly assisted in helping me draw closer to God and live a happy, productive life. Having a close relationship with Jehovah is so important because our heavenly Father knows how we feel. I pray you too find comfort and solace in the Scriptures and knowing how our heavenly Father feels about you:

"In case my own father and my own mother did leave me, Even Jehovah himself would take me up" Psalm 27:10

So basically you didn't find God until you needed him? This is why Christianity is the most picked at religion folks, it's one of the few that only requires you to be faithful at your own convenience. It's easy to look for god when you are in a time of turmoil. It's also to forget about god when you don't need him anymore...

"“With [God] is the source of life.” (Psalm 36:9)
Those words have profound implications.

If what the Bible says is true, life does have meaning. Our Creator has a loving purpose that extends to all who choose to live in accord with his will.

(Ecclesiastes 12:13 "The conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is: Fear the [true] God and keep his commandments. For this is the whole [obligation] of man. ")

That purpose includes the promise of life in a world free of chaos, conflict, and corruption—and even free of death.
[—Psalm 37:10"And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.
11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."]

[Isaiah 25:6"And Jehovah of armies will certainly make for all the peoples, in this mountain, a banquet of well-oiled dishes, a banquet of [wine kept on] the dregs, of well-oiled dishes filled with marrow, of [wine kept on] the dregs, filtered. 7 And in this mountain he will certainly swallow up the face of the envelopment that is enveloping over all the peoples, and the woven work that is interwoven upon all the nations. 8 He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces. And the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for Jehovah himself has spoken [it]."]

With good reason, millions of people around the world believe that learning about God and obeying him give meaning to life as nothing else can!
(John 17:33 This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ. )

No we are not inherently good, as you can plainly see by the state of the world collapsing around us. Humans are in fact inherently evil, which probably goes a long way to explain the pain you have experienced in your life.

What our belief system does (note the deliberate absence of the word 'religion') is teach us that we can choose a better alternative. We cannot do it on our own because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Humanity is sinful and will only continue to get worse until it makes itself extinct.

With any belief system, there will be those who are attracted to it for the power it can give them over those they can manipulate. We need to get past those people and make our own choices.

I'm not sure if any of this is getting through but if you only remember one thing, its this:

Jesus can and will save you. Just call on his name and he will be there. In your last moments if you have to but just remember him...

Shouldn't your own spirit and humanity tell you those very things?

When someone tells you a child was harmed at the hands of a church, do you go to that child and offer "god" and suggest he go play with the priest again or do you have some respect for other people's pain?

Get off your high horse and realise that your "saviour" is not a good thing to most people and that when they ask you to stop selling the poison to those already harmed by it, it might be because you are doing more harm. Duh. Jesus, you are dense.

Look, I know you get special brownie points and extra cupcakes in heaven if you convert people, but get a clue. Grow some restraint.
Quoting: The Light Under the Door

If someone tells me a child is harmed at the hands of a church, I offer that God is not that church and to stay the fuck away from it... Since ancient times, people have used religion as a method of control and abuse. This is not representative of God though.

The reality is that to a hurting person, Jesus is one of the ONLY things that can truly heal you. Most people will only screw you over again and again. Jesus is not poison, he is life. I respect the fact you are in pain but I am simply trying to open your eyes to the fact that you need not wallow in it any longer.

I could care less about brownies and cupcakes in heaven, just getting there myself is enough of a reward. The reason I try and help is because I hate what has happened to people like yourself. I despise that children are used and abused. I am abhorred by the practices of many people who call themselves christian and claim to speak in God's name.

Please understand that electronic communications take out a large percentage of subtle implied communication and the way you interpret a comment may not be the way it is intended. If I have caused you further pain I apologise. My intention is to help others reach a better place in their lives through a knowledge of Jesus Christ.

There are people out here that care deeply for people like yourself. We wish to help, not hurt. If you are open to it, a lot of good can come as a result.
 Quoting: asparien

If a child was harmed and emotionally traumatised by your bestest most favourite puppy dog in the world that you thought was nothing but love, light, and good. Would you continually shove the dog in the child's face and tell them they just need to pet it? Because that is exactly what you are doing to me. Please, for the love of your ridiculous god, DO NOT EVER go into crisis help or suicide prevention. Someone will end up dead with your help. Seriously.
Quoting: The Light Under the Door

I'm not taking sides seeing as I'm not a christian, but was God the one that hurt you? You claimed it was the church. I don't remember anybody saying to join the church, just the cliche "God is great, blah blah blah."

There is such a thing as spirituality without religion.

Personally I don't agree with anyone that says you should find God because they found God during a tough time and it helped them out though. To me those kinds of people are the worst. It's easy to find God when you have nothing else. Praising god when you have everything you need (home, family, food, etc.) and living the way he supposedly wants us to is commendable though.

Whatever walk in life you choose, don't choose it because someone says "Hey it helped me when I was in a bad place, you should try it too!"

And to the "christians" that are babbling about God after you were asked not to: shame on you. Give this person their freedom to choose their beliefs. If God is real he gave us our freedom to choose for a reason. So we can find our own path and not have to depend on those who are stronger/more fortunate than us (unless you want to of course.

Catholic Inquisition
(video)

with Ex-Catholic Priest Richard Bennett

The severity of torture and murder that took place under Papal authority during the 605 years of the Inquisition can now be revealed from the pages of history. From the beginning of the Papacy, until the present time, it is estimated by credible historians that more than 50,000,000, men and women have been slaughtered for the crime of heresy charged against them by Papal Rome. This Video contains actual photographs of some of the instruments of torture that were used.

From John Dowling's The History of Romanism Book 8 Ch. 1, p 542-543, "From the birth of Popery in 600, to the present time, it is estimated by careful and credible historians, that more than fifty million of the human family, have been slaughtered for the crime of heresy by popish persecutors, an average of more than forty thousand religious murders for every year of the existence of Popery." The main credible historians on the Inquisition, besides Dowling himself are Lea, Vancandard, Maycock, Coulton, Turberville and Scott's Church History. The torture chambers of the Inquisition lasted 605 years and were found throughout the nations controlled by Rome. They had their beginning under Pope Innocent III in 1203 until the Inquisition's final dissolution in Spain and Portugal in 1808.

The DVD documents as well twentieth century atrocities of the Vatican working with Roman Catholic dictators such as Benito Mussolini, Adolf Hitler; Francisco Franco in Spain, and Antonio Salazar in Portugal. The most brutal and bloodthirsty of all was Anton Pavelic in Croatia four-year reign of terror.

You'd have to go further back than that.
Immediately after the council of Nicea, Emperor Constantine had the heathens of northern Europe corralled and killed. Destroyed their churches and erected new Christian Churches. This we know is fact.
As far as the allegorical tales go, there's no shortage of genocide perpetuated in God's name in the bible.

Yes, the Israelites were allowed to have slaves under the Torah. They could only make slaves of the Jewish people for 6 years, the 7th year they had to let them go free. The Israelites could make bondmen and bondwomen out of the other nations for life. This law existed when Jesus was here but He never seemed to address it Himself.

Many are christians in name only. They do not live as Christ taught and they do not love themselves or each other.

Christ brought freedom from judgement to the world. His perfect life and loving sacrifice was sufficient to pay the penalty for every individual sin of every individual person in the world.

A true christian will strive to emulate Christ in their everyday life by loving, helping and serving those around them. As you have probably noticed, there are few of these people around. They are there however and if their deeds are unnoticed by their peers, they are certainly seen by God Almighty who prepares a reward for them in Heaven.

Many christians give christianity a bad name but they are not representative of what it means to be a follower of Christ.

Have you ever actually TRIED praying for your enemies, praying for blessings on those who use you and talk shit about you?

It ain't easy.

But I will tell you this. It CHANGES things. If nothing else it changes YOU.

It's much easier to say "karma!" or "what comes around goes around!"

Being a Christian in today's world is hard, if not impossible.

It's constant fail...with the occasional success that one must never feel any pride about. It's only by grace that we are able to accomplish this.

Seriously.

I dare any of you naysayers to give this a shot for a week.

I'ma gonna vote for the "Body of Christ' wafers at Catholic services...

Nutritional, tasty and apparently kettle-cooked....

Made from priest-seed and by hand...

THAT'S the dedication the muzzies are lacking...

Finish with a spartan splash of the holy spirit and, man...heaven awaits....

..or should I say, ...manna' awaits?...

The slavers used several passages from the bible to justify slavery..
 Quoting: jadksn 24543892

Yes, the Israelites were allowed to have slaves under the Torah. They could only make slaves of the Jewish people for 6 years, the 7th year they had to let them go free. The Israelites could make bondmen and bondwomen out of the other nations for life. This law existed when Jesus was here but He never seemed to address it Himself.

Are you talking about this scripture?

You may bequeath them to your sons after you, to inherit as a possession forever; you may make slaves of them, but over your brethren the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another, with harshness. (Leviticus 25:44)

Do you understand what it means?
