Re: name one good thing christianty has brought the world
When someone tells you a child was harmed at the hands of a church, do you go to that child and offer "god" and suggest he go play with the priest again or do you have some respect for other people's pain?

Get off your high horse and realise that your "saviour" is not a good thing to most people and that when they ask you to stop selling the poison to those already harmed by it, it might be because you are doing more harm. Duh. Jesus, you are dense.

Look, I know you get special brownie points and extra cupcakes in heaven if you convert people, but get a clue. Grow some restraint.
Quoting: The Light Under the Door

If someone tells me a child is harmed at the hands of a church, I offer that God is not that church and to stay the fuck away from it... Since ancient times, people have used religion as a method of control and abuse. This is not representative of God though.

The reality is that to a hurting person, Jesus is one of the ONLY things that can truly heal you. Most people will only screw you over again and again. Jesus is not poison, he is life. I respect the fact you are in pain but I am simply trying to open your eyes to the fact that you need not wallow in it any longer.

I could care less about brownies and cupcakes in heaven, just getting there myself is enough of a reward. The reason I try and help is because I hate what has happened to people like yourself. I despise that children are used and abused. I am abhorred by the practices of many people who call themselves christian and claim to speak in God's name.

Please understand that electronic communications take out a large percentage of subtle implied communication and the way you interpret a comment may not be the way it is intended. If I have caused you further pain I apologise. My intention is to help others reach a better place in their lives through a knowledge of Jesus Christ.

There are people out here that care deeply for people like yourself. We wish to help, not hurt. If you are open to it, a lot of good can come as a result.
 Quoting: asparien

If a child was harmed and emotionally traumatised by your bestest most favourite puppy dog in the world that you thought was nothing but love, light, and good. Would you continually shove the dog in the child's face and tell them they just need to pet it? Because that is exactly what you are doing to me. Please, for the love of your ridiculous god, DO NOT EVER go into crisis help or suicide prevention. Someone will end up dead with your help. Seriously.
Quoting: The Light Under the Door

but I thought the OP had asked a question? Shouldn't you have assumed there will be be some on here trying to answer it? -and maybe not have read this thread if it's traumatizing?

I am very sorry to hear you say that and cannot fathom how difficult life must have been (or maybe still is?) for you. For the longest time I felt kinda cheated due to having dysfunctionally "absent" parents for most of my youth(eg, alcholism/depression). This is definitely not how family life was meant to be.

In my case, reading the Bible greatly assisted in helping me draw closer to God and live a happy, productive life. Having a close relationship with Jehovah is so important because our heavenly Father knows how we feel. I pray you too find comfort and solace in the Scriptures and knowing how our heavenly Father feels about you:

"In case my own father and my own mother did leave me, Even Jehovah himself would take me up" Psalm 27:10
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1447032

I SO concur with this. I feel I have a perfect parent now and have let go of resentment towards my imperfect parents, poor bunnies!, and have let go of despair of ever having a meaningful life.
Maybe this scripture holds a clue to why nominal Christianity falls short for so many?:

John 6:43 "In answer Jesus said to them: “Stop murmuring among yourselves. 44 No man can come to me unless the Father, who sent me, draws him; and I will resurrect him in the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by Jehovah.’ Everyone that has heard from the Father and has learned comes to me. Re: name one good thing christianty has brought the world
Your examples:

War - Please explain how this is justified by christianity as opposed to people professing to be christians.

Catholic Inquisition. Fear of Muslims that is and has been driving the current war insanity.

Homophobia - Not scared of homosexuals at all. Love em to bits just as I love anyone else. Don't agree with homosexuality though, take that one up with God, its not for me to judge.

Your people do judge. Ask any Southern church. Even you "don't agree" with it as if you have the right to agree or disagree with what people do behind their own bedroom doors

Responsibility - Please explain?

The idea that your sins can be washed away so it's okay to make them, the idea that the better life is after death and not on this planet so that more time is invested in getting jesus brownie points rather than making this world a better place. The idea that you don't have to listen to people when they say "stop" because your god compels you. The idea that you can feel superior over someone regardless of their situation because a book tells you that you are.

We are not, by definition, soulless as we each have a soul. Morals are a different issue as everyone has a different moral compass. Regardless, we are called to higher accountability since Jesus died as we are responsible now for each sin we commit, unless we accept Jesus as sacrifice in our place.

Face it, you have no real compass or you wouldn't search for one through an outdated book full of hate and death.. You are slaves to god because you need to be, for everyone's sake and safety. It's fine, really.

Quoting: The Light Under the Door

The catholic inquisition was perpetrated by some of the worst SATANISTS in history who actively pursued and killed CHRISTIANS because true christianity threatens their power. Catholicism and Papal rule IS NOT christianity and is a breeding ground for some of the worst examples of humanity you will come across. The False Prophet who is the leader of the one-world religion to come will be the head of the Roman Catholic Church. The one who is prophesied to be 'Peter the Roman'.

Regarding the judgement of homosexuals. I repeat that the actions of a few do not change the basic tenets of christianity in which we are specifically instructed not to judge. We are to teach God's commandments and share his love but we are in NO POSITION to judge. If a person chooses a homosexual lifestyle then they are ultimately responsible for that choice. All we can do is warn them that God has specifically stated that he finds homosexuality to be an abomination in his sight. He created man and woman to be sexually and emotionally compatible. Anything outside of that is not part of his designated plan and is therefore unacceptable to him. But again, I repeat: Christians are not to judge, it is NOT our place.

Regarding responsibility. We are not given a free pass to commit sin simply because we are forgiven. Neither do we become miraculously perfect upon acceptance of Jesus into our lives. We are called to a higher purpose which is to live as he lived. We are called to love the unloveable, reach the unreachable and care for those who are rejected by the world we find ourselves in. We are also called to challenge false teachings and to open peoples eyes to the truth, even when they would rather stay blind. Not once have I rammed anything down your throat. As I said before, this is a public discussion and your continued presence here implies a choice on your behalf to continue to be exposed to the opinions we share. If you do not wish to read what is posted for the benefit of ALL then please do not read what I have to say. I will NOT stop speaking and go back to my box just because you tell me you are offended. Again, your continued presence here is your choice and your responsibility. If you have a question, I will answer. If you make a false accusation, I will contest it. If you share a truth, I will concur. This is fair and equitable and this right exists for all who frequent this forum.

My moral compass is being constantly recalibrated by the source of life, love and truth. Daily communication with Jesus and the Holy Spirit within leads to daily revelation of the aspects of my personality that require adjustment to bring myself more into alignment with what Jesus desires of my life. This is my spiritual journey. I am made perfect in God's eyes but I will never reach perfection in this life. I will always strive to improve myself however and will not settle with what I am at a particular time. We all have parts of ourselves that are less than honourable. It is our moral duty and responsibility to identify and fix the problems that exist within ourselves. This will not in itself allow us to EARN a place in Heaven but it is a part of the journey we find ourselves on once we start our walk with Christ.

And to the "christians" that are babbling about God after you were asked not to: shame on you. Give this person their freedom to choose their beliefs. If God is real he gave us our freedom to choose for a reason. So we can find our own path and not have to depend on those who are stronger/more fortunate than us (unless you want to of course.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24854592

Please refer to my previous comments regarding this being a PUBLIC forum as opposed to a private discussion. A person has the right to leave a conversation if they do not like what is being said but I will not refrain from sharing what I believe to be truth. If you have a question, I will answer. If you make a false accusation, I will contest it. If you share a truth, I will concur. This is fair and equitable and this right exists for all who frequent this forum.

Many are christians in name only. They do not live as Christ taught and they do not love themselves or each other.

Christ brought freedom from judgement to the world. His perfect life and loving sacrifice was sufficient to pay the penalty for every individual sin of every individual person in the world.

A true christian will strive to emulate Christ in their everyday life by loving, helping and serving those around them. As you have probably noticed, there are few of these people around. They are there however and if their deeds are unnoticed by their peers, they are certainly seen by God Almighty who prepares a reward for them in Heaven.

Many christians give christianity a bad name but they are not representative of what it means to be a follower of Christ.

Have you ever actually TRIED praying for your enemies, praying for blessings on those who use you and talk shit about you?

It ain't easy.

But I will tell you this. It CHANGES things. If nothing else it changes YOU.

It's much easier to say "karma!" or "what comes around goes around!"

Being a Christian in today's world is hard, if not impossible.

It's constant fail...with the occasional success that one must never feel any pride about. It's only by grace that we are able to accomplish this.

Seriously.

I dare any of you naysayers to give this a shot for a week.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10783814

Brother, I strive to live this every day. I am not saying that we should not pray for our enemies or that we should refer to karma when dealing with pain in our lives. I have experienced some very painful situations and it has indeed been a humbling experience to ask for god's blessing on those who have caused the pain.

The point I was trying to make is that it seems the vast majority of those who call themselves christian today, fail to live according to these guidelines. They are christians in name only. These are the people who have hurt LUTD and I am trying to explain that they do not represent Jesus or God and they are indeed some of the most reprehensible people we will encounter in this life because of anyone on earth, THESE PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!!

I hope I have clarified my position

Hi A/C

A question was asked and answers were given. LUTD then proceeds to ask several of us to cease sharing our opinions. This is an unfair proposition in an open discussion. Several others and I have shared our advice in love and gentleness but LUTD has rejected our words and responded with false accusations and poisonous diatribe. Their pain is real but taking it out on those who try to help is counterproductive. We are not the ones who perpetrated the abuse against them and are trying to explain that there is a better way in life. We need not be ruled by our past and present circumstances. If a person does not wish to see or hear this in a PUBLIC DISCUSSION then they may feel free to leave this discussion.

There was no reference to you telling them to stop selling God with the bad karma point. The comment seems to be a warning is all...

And just to clarify, it was not me who gave the single bad karma point (there was just one, not many). Neither do I agree with awarding a bad karma point in effort to try and 'win' an argument.

Eternal damnation is not a 'selling point' but a simple fact. It will occur to those who reject Jesus and there are those of us who are shouting to the world to turn back before it's too late.

Many of us do actually have morals without needing a religion to tell us so.

I find it interesting that apparently, as you say, many are born without morals and that's why you need religion to guide you. It's very sad, but I can see why TPTB would bind you with religion (as retarded of a belief system as it may be). I just don't think it works very well because in general your people do nothing with it but use it to make excuses, war, be homophobic, avoid rational thought, avoid responsibility, etc. Maybe they were right to try to kill off the Christians if you truly are soulless and moral-less people without your bindings.

Shouldn't your own spirit and humanity tell you those very things?

So what informs your morality-- if not an absolute truth-giving deity? Is it the ever-changing relativistic popular opinion (herd morality)? Is it your own mind? It sounds great saying you don't need religion to be moral, but it is intellectually dishonest.

 Quoting: asparien

I would like to humbly disagree with this point.

Asparien I've appreciated your posts in this thread ... you seem to have great zeal for the Lord but, like Saul before he became Paul, he realized it was not according to accurate knowledge. Are you 100% sure that "eternal damnation" is a Bible teaching?

The God I've come to know has 4 outstanding attributes or qualities that define Him: love, wisdom, justice, power.... along with many others (mercy, loyalty, holiness, etc.). Just reason with me here for a bit: does the teaching of punishing somebody eternally in a place of torment for sins committed in a human lifetime sound compatible with those qualities? Seriously - 80-90 yrs if you're lucky to live that long - compared to eternity? Does that sound like justice to you? It's no wonder so many people reject God because of this abominable teaching! Not only does it dishonor God but it has no basis in Scripture!

(And please, if you're going to quote Scripture, before you do be sure to do some research - NOT just superficial research - but honest-to-goodness research... compare your version of the Bible with others... surely you're aware that there are many translations of the Bible... there's great resources online to do this. You'll note that the original language words "Sheol" and "Hades" have been inconsistently translated in various versions as pit, grave, and hell. This alone should tell you what hell really is... the common grave of mankind. Compare for example Acts 2:31 with Psalm 16:10... even Jesus Christ was in the Biblical hell... not a place of torment, rather in his grave. As a suggestion, the first myth you'll have to get over is this: that we have a soul that survives death. This belief is at the root of many false teachings with origins that go way back before Christ to the time of the Egyptians and Babylonians.)

It is crucial that we have accurate knowledge of the truth so that we honor God when we talk to others about Him.

"This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, whose will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth." 1 Tim 2:3, 4
