The minute you do, you'll probably see a deer. Go slow walking back to camp. I've seen plenty of deer as I was in a hurry to get back for lunch. no tree stands, public land, we'll be doing a lot of walking thru the brush, up and down canyons and such |

Ready an User ID: 23618168 United States 10/08/2012 04:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Be vewy bewy quiet. Wear orange until you are up in your stand. Prepare as if you think you may get lost and spend 3 days on foot trying to locate civilization. Flashlight, cell phone, water purification, compass, etc. I'm a woodsman and have to rescue someone every year. Carry plenty of ammo in case you have to squeeze off 3 round lost/help signals. Get to your stand an hour before sunrise or so and stay put until at least 9:30am. Put your orange back on when heading out. One shot, one kill. Dont shoot anything with spots. Confirm you are not aiming at an illegal buck (spike or less than a 6pt, etc.) Know the state laws or rules of the club property. Break either and you are so screwed. Invest in "unscenting yourself" products. A deer can smell you from a mile away. Presuming you are after horns 1st & meat 2nd then: Study terrain days ahead for scrapes/signs of rutt. Dont freak when the does frolic about. Be patient and Wait for big boy to step out from hiding after he is convinced it is safe. Have your safety off, finger Outside of trigger guard until ready to take aim & kill. Aim for just behind the front shoulder if he/she is 50 yards or more out. If closer place your shot between the eyes. You will experience a feeling of complete Rush with adrenalin. Wait and breathe it all in and confirm your target is down to stay. Many times the herd is so stunned that you can get off another shot or two depending on if you need the meat or what the laws are. Too many stories of a herd of hogs chasing you up a tree while your rifle is still on the ground leaning up against the tree. At least in my area its happened plenty of times over the years. So strap on a backup pistol. |

Get comfortable and clear an area where you can move your feet and butt without making noise. Glass the sides of the canyons. On steep shots, aim low. Have a topo map with roads, and a compass or GPS. In his book, "Between Two Ages," Brzezinski wrote: "The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values." MuzzleBreak |

Think first light and last light. #9 Bucks roost high during the day. They will always lay down in a saddle in shade with good vantage or on a ridge ...in shade. They always will have many escape routes from their roost. #10 I always carry a shooting rest of some kind one shot one kill know the vital area to hit. California hunter with over 10 kills.... |
