do you ever use apple cider vinegar for keeping the bugs away and or disinfecting meat ?

I just carry some pepper in my pack. Easy.
If you take the proper steps, the meat will not be contaminated nor need disinfecting.

I do my own butchering and processing. Always have.
That is the only way to be sure of the quality of the meat. I know where it has been and how it is taken care of.
Some processors will switch on you if you don't know the difference.

I marinate in italian dressing to break down the tougher portions. Any acidic substance works for that. Lemon juice, vinegar...

As long as you don't perforate the bladder, stomach, intestines while field dressing.. the meat will be good if you get it cooled down quickly.
Keeps leaves and dirt out of the cavity. Wash it well.
Cut any bloodshot meat out as soon as you can.

Don't ride all over town with the carcass on the hood of the truck..

A person can irrationally hate hunting, hunters.. whatever.

The fact remains that hunting and harvesting meat to eat is perfectly in tune with nature. No different than gathering native edible plants. That is why God put them here.

Going to a store and buying meat and other foodstuffs that are processed, irradiated, hormone-injected, color-enhanced and preservative-laden.. is not natural.

If you can't see that.. I don't know what else to say.

Keep your nose to the wind. Find the trails they use. Walk very slowly. No more than 100 yards in 15 minutes. Aim small hit small. Put it in the boiler room and you will harvest a deer and a hog.

Or...what I like to do is go out camping. Take your gear with you in a backpack (you and at least one other buddy), hike, follow tracks, scat, nests, etc....but when you eventually come upon animals, take photographs of them. So you get all the orienteering, exercise, tracking, camping out for a few days, etc. But no death. You leave everything as you found it. And bring back some really cool photos for people to see, and for you to show your kids.
