ABC News has BANNED AMERICAN FLAG LAPEL PINS ON ALL REPORTERS!!!!

Young enough to miss the point I think. Might be worthwhile to do a bit of research into what our flag means, what it stands for. And why so many others around the world love to replace ours with theirs - and then burn ours. Then maybe consider what the flag they replace ours with means to them - their ideals, their intent, and their current state of affairs.

You might start to get the picture.

Nope. There weren't flags on buses before 9/11 that I remember...and on every other public vehicle for that matter. Just stating my observation.

I agree with this, however, ABC is a private company and we should respect their decision and not call it unpatriotic. Otherwise, we denote ourselves to a myopic symbol rather than connote ourselves to a broad patriotism. Let us agree with those who disagree and vice versa!

Big f'n deal. Reporters aren't allowed to wear any branded clothes except the station logo. The flag is just another branded logo.

I recall about a dozen years ago being told the most ridiculous, fantastic lies about Arabs with boxcutters and sophisticated computerized batcaves in Afghanistan--by talking heads wearing American flags in their lapels.

They should wear the logos of their corporate owners in their lapels.

Everyone was bitching when all the reporters were wearing flag pins after 9/11, saying they were too immersed in blind patriotism to do real reporting and question things that happened. Now a station bans the flag pins, and everyone is still bitching. Journalists should not be wearing American flag pins. You can't even call yourself a journalist with a straight face when you're wearing a fucking pin with the fucking American flag on it. It has nothing to do with socialism or patriotism or Obama. It has to do with journalism. If you're wearing a pin with a nation's flag on it, you're no journalist.

I personally LOVE flag lapel pins and they are NOT ONLY a SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE (in my book and as far as I ever knew), OFFICIAL form of outward patriotism and pride, but they are also a PERSONAL statement, creative in nature.


I COMPLETELY disagree with this banning of flag lapel pins, and furthermore, I feel it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Where in the Constitution does it say Americans are required to display a flag lapel pin?

If one doesn't display a flag lapel pin, does this mean the person isn't "patriotic"?

Being an atheist, relative to believing in a God, I don't think that it's right to separate church and state, necessarily.

I believe that states have the right to socialism. I believe states have the right to theocracy.

Why wouldn't they have that right? Who are we to tell others how to behave? We can only lead by example in an absolutely free society, correct?

Our country was not based on separation of church and state no matter how we try to slice it. That was developed from Roger Williams view, you know the guy that settled Rhode Island?

Even then, it was totally per state how anyone state governed themselves.

I don't know, I suppose I'm trying to correct some false beliefs that my generation holds dear...such as the false belief in separation of church and state. You want to change that? Take majority of the state. Otherwise, your argument will remain moot. The bill of rights apply to the states en toto? Why should they unless you are for your beliefs triumphing over the will of the people. What does that make you? A tyrant! Let people have their simple beliefs, where is it hurting? Oh that's where?
