If you mean by prophecy, I thought by those prophecies Damascus becomes (paraphrase) a "ruinous heap" but that does not necessarily mean a nuclear attack, it could be said that London, Berlin etc where all ruinous heaps after the bombings in WW2.

As far as I am aware (please someone correct me if I am wrong) but it doesn't mention it being inhabited at the time.

As for time lines.. this could have happened at any point especially from the Crusades onwards.. e.g Richard the Lion heart was headed that way during the Crusades but was blocked, Rommel was heading towards Syria and then onto capture the oil in Iran in WW2, but was also blocked.. I guess we can only guess what might happen next..

If you are Christian, think on this, Saladin is supposed to have sent the True Cross to Damascus where all trace of it from that point has been lost from Historical records, perhaps it still resides in Damascus?

I just hope that if/when it happens, you are standing close enough to get seared but far enough away to suffer.
