MD I-70 early morning transports?
For several months now I have noticed early morning transports of large steel sections on I-70 westbound. They appear to be 12 feet in diameter and roughly 50 foot long. There is a bulkhead at one end with a man way. These appear to be tunnel sections heading westbound.

These are not wind turbine tower segments. They will be installed in a horizontal orientation, based on the manway configuration.

Anyone have any info? Its driving me nuts.

At first I thought ...water line ..... but each one has a bulkhead with a manway, effectively creating an airlock. You don't need that in each one.

Bored tunnel sections are usually segmental and again, no bulkheads.

This is more akin to what you would install underwater, weld, bury and then pump out. But why so many bulkheads?

I have discussed this with a few people. I was thinking missle silos or something. Frive from hagerstown to rockville daily and see them every morning. All brand new, def. Not for water.

Not silos. Those are reinforced concrete. These structures are configured to be laid horizontally.

So you are seeing them west of Fredrock?

Yes I see them west of frederick. Every morning heading west. So big they usually have a state trooper behind the flag car. However, it is not big enough for the silver line and it is going in the wrong direction. I also wonder what exit they get off of. Maybe towards blue ridge summit to the underground city?

Friend says missle silo. They seem too slim for a fema bunker but not for a tunnel or hall but why the bulk head?

Not a silo. They are not constructed that way. They could be used for buried shelters, but it is not the most efficient method of construction unless you are trying to bury something quickly.

I don't know. That is the long way to get there and you don't normally construct that type of facility that way. Hard rock tunneling is usually done by open face mining or TBM. You don't normally dig a shaft and then slide a liner in full length.

Dude ...I assume that you are talking to me. I pass those trucks at 5:00-5:30 in the morning. You probably wouldn't know, but the sun is not up and I am going 75 MPH in the opposite direction. Not really prime photo taking conditions.

So if you don't like the thread ....piss off.

Re: MD I-70 early morning transports?
Not bullshit.

I have no idea what they are then. I am a GLPer so I automatically assume something big and/or bad. Every morning @ 530 or so, there they are. No way to get pictures, it is dark and going in the opposite direction.

Blue ridge summit houses fort ritchie. Google site R. It was an underground command center for the pentagon. I would cut off my pinkie toe to go inside it.
