Bayou Corne Sinkhole Newest Updates! ~November 10th...

My family all live in Cecilia, LA which is near Lafayette, do you think this whole thing is something they need to worry about too?

I know where Cecilia is, yes. I honestly don't know the answer to your question. All I can tell you is that they haven't forced anyone in the immediate area to leave, and I am starting to wonder why, since they have no idea of the magnitude of this.

Are they letting anyone know about the severity of the problem or is it being kept quiet?

Trees were gone from the middle at the pipeline row, yes, buy I am assuming they mean trees from either side are now gone.

They will get us a video today I'm guessing since State Police didn't do a fly over yesterday that I heard. They are supposed to do Monday and Thursday flyovers. I usually hear them.

A Friend, they are telling us they don't know the source of the gas, or how big the problem is, and that yes, it is a very dangerous situation because of these unknowns, and the possibilities of what could happen. I am here in Bayou Corne. Most of the people left. Some stayed. Some left and came back.

I read about this methane problem from the Gulf a few years ago. Someone had written about it coming from cracks on the gulf floor. I hope and pray that nothing too bad happens but this could be a very big explosion. Please don't stay too long. Get yourself to safety.

Supposedly someone got an email saying the date of the meeting was posted incorrectly and not being held until tomorrow?

He is looking at the wrong area. There is a section dedicated to Bayou Corne for all news, then there is a Parish blog, 3 links down in the list. Anything that is posted on the BLOG, we get an email telling us what it says. If it's extra important or urgent, we also get a text message and a phone call.

//Driving of casing in the third vent well is complete, they were able to go down to 200′. We are advised to expect flaring by the weekend.

We have been advised that Texas Brine is continuing clean up at the sinkhole site.

The resident briefing will be held this evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Command Post.



A Friend, this is the 3rd time I think in 13 years this has happened here.

The only sinkholes I've ever seen weren't filled with water? Can someone explain how the water isn't draining out of the area...

great intel. any water main breaks, roads buckling? some guy had posted a while back about the New Madrid as the salt domes lie within even larger cavities underground. so if sea water is now getting into the sinkhole that means that larger cavity might be breached and would dissolve the integrity of the earth above. do you P know of salt water in the sinkhole?

From firsthand reports, I'd go with STINKHOLE!

Okay, sorry, was looking through videos. The sinkhole is filled with and staying full because ALL of that area is water. All that pretty green is what we call rush, hedge or swamp grass. It's a grass that grows in mucky muddy mushy mud or very shallow water. It is easily displaced because of shallow roots. What looks like dry land one day, make look like a pond, or another sinkhole, as has been implied, the next day.

Most sink holes you see are dry because they happen on dry land. None of this is dry land and only accessible by airboat or building roads and foundations. If you watch through some of the videos, you will see that all the pads and roads are built up and you will see NO equipment off of these built up areas, and that's because it's all water. Add to that all the rain we have had and the sinkhole is acting like any other pond once full. When it rains a lot, it overflows and expands it's perimeters making it look bigger than it is.

When the sinkhole happened, obviously water from the cavern cameup, but the swamp also flowed in to it. All of those trees are bald cypress trees that you normally see growing IN water.

Also, that area that looks like a road, is not a road, but a pipeline corridor, which previsouly was only accessible by airboat. a road can NOT be built over a pipeline corridor.

i have been following this from end of july.

i might be wrong but i think it is because there is highly pressured gases pushing up and there is very little earth between the surface and these pocket of gas with the water table it in the middle.

Looks like a great location for a nuclear plant.,,,nothing left to lose.
