10:45 p.m. Seismic Activity Reported
October 25, 2012 //

It has been reported to us that there was a sharp tremor recorded by USGS monitors at approximately 9:06 last night. The tremor was large enough that the body wave phases could easily be identified. The preliminary location was just SE of Oxy #3 cavern at a depth of 500m. There is no additional information specific to this seismic activity at this time.

7:40 a.m. Shaw Group Analysis of Seismic Activity
October 29, 2012 //

Following recent reports of seismic activity on the western side of the Napoleonville Salt Dome, the Office of Conservation asked Dr. Gary Hecox with Shaw Environmental and Infrastructure to evaluate the readings from the USGS monitoring equipment.

Below is Dr. Hecox’s analysis:

On Tuesday October 23, 2012 at 9:06 PM a short duration, pronounced seismic event was recorded at the site. The Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI) was able to determine that this event occurred at a depth of approximately 500 meters (1,600 feet). Shaw has reviewed the data from the cavern pressure monitoring system and sinkhole bubble activity. The seismic event did not have any discernible effect on cavern pressure or sinkhole bubble activity. No new bubble sites have been observed since this event occurred and activity at existing bubble sites has not visibly changed.

Texas Brine, LLC
UPDATE
October 29, 2012

[link to www.texasbrine.com]

1.

The Observation Well remained shut in today. During hydrocarbon removal on Friday and Saturday the casing pressure was reduced thus indicating brine was filling the casing. However, after this work, hydrocarbons continued to enter the casing from the cavern causing the casing surface
pressure to return to 940-970 psig on Sunday. Hydrocarbon removal is planned to resume Tuesday and continue through the week, with brine being pumped in to replace the hydrocarbon to maintain steady cavern pressures.

2.

The testing of the Observation Well last Friday indicated the cavern floor had risen an additional 10 feet from the previous measurement on October 19. The cavern floor has come up approximately 52 feet since it was first measured on September 24. Additional measurements are planned for later this week.

3.

The removal of liquid hydrocarbons from the sinkhole surface resumed today. The size and characteristics of the sinkhole remain unchanged. Gas continues to bubble up in the center of the sinkhole.

4.

Since perforating the casing last week, the shallow aquifer relief well has still not indicated any gas pressure. Various options to assist gas to start
flowing through the perforations are being evaluated. Once these plans are finalized, work is expected to resume later this week in order to begin venting/flaring gas from the aquifer. For more information about Texas Brine Company’s response to the Bayou Corne incident, visit:

Company, parish disagree on size of sinkhole

In part...

Assumption Parish and Texas Brine Co. officials issued estimates Wednesday that disagree on how much land a 5.5-acre sinkhole swallowed during the slurry hole’s eastern-bank collapse Tuesday.

Parish officials offered an estimate Wednesday nearly 19 times the size of their initial estimate on Tuesday, while Texas Brine officials suggested Wednesday the amount of land that crumbled into the sinkhole actually was a bit less than the parish’s initial estimate.

The dispute dates back to Tuesday, when the parish announced that 1,600 square feet of land fell into the sinkhole about 4:45 p.m. that day. Wednesday, parish officials raised their estimate of the land loss to almost as much as 0.7 acre, or 30,000 square feet

For a more precise measurement, parish officials said, they plan a flyover Thursday of the sinkhole located in wooded swampland between Grand Bayou and Bayou Corne south of La. 70 South.

Again,I have no idea what you are talking about with ratings, or how they work. Nor do I care. I don't post ACCURATE, VERIFIABLE information to win a popularity contest, and based on the timing of your response, you obviously didn't even bother to read what I posted or check the link, to see that.

Why in the hell would a shill keep posting verifiable facts?

As long as I see that people are reading, I will keep posting. Don't like it? Tough.

Options few for displaced residents

The evacuation hit the three-month mark Saturday, and though officials recently got natural gas to start venting from under the area — a side consequence of the sinkhole’s formation — it is uncertain when the evacuation might end and normalcy would return to the bayou community.

Looming over their lives, as they shuttle between two homes, are the questions of what their houses in Bayou Corne may be worth and whether that value will ever recover.

Shane Guillot, associate broker with Guillot Realty in Donaldsonville, said for the time being, the land the evacuees own is basically worthless.

“As of today, right now, that land is absolutely worthless back there and the reason being, if they find somebody that was brave enough to buy with all these unreal issues back there, the mortgage companies aren’t going to make a loan back there,” Guillot said.

He said he is aware of two different mortgage companies that will not make loans in the area.

Excellent three night special on the sinkhole by klfy Channel 10 Lafayette (approx 60 miles away)

[link to www.klfy.com]

But sadly, probably too late.

The resident updates have all but come to a halt.
Weekly meetings are non existent.
The flyovers have been reduced to maybe once a week. Louisiana State Police (Haz Mat)is pulling out.
Wild Life and Fisheries is pulling out.

Patassa,

Why are they pulling out? Do they give a reason? Are they saying "nothing here to see, move along"? Do you find it odd they are pulling out? Do you still feel safe and nothing is afoot?? Hope you are well.

Re: Bayou Corne Sinkhole Newest Updates! ~November 10th...
Hi Mia,

We don't know why they've left. We weren't informed, and only heard of it by word of mouth. We've not had a community meeting with officials for almost 3 weeks now but one is scheduled for Tuesday. Nothing was said in any blog updates.

Texas Brine is flaring gas now, but the 3 other vent wells installed have remained nonfunctioning. Nothing has been told to us about why they are not being used other than 3 weeks ago the vent holes were clogged up and equipment was on it's way to correct that problem. Guess it didn't get corrected.

Chevron and Crosstex are still moving the butane out of the closest caverns to the sinkhole as far as we know. No reports that it has been completed.

Gas has been discovered as shallow as 20 feet near the community and they will now be checking all homes and structures where gas might accumulate.

Word of mouth is there was another cavein, but nothing was posted about that either.

Pretty much everything we are hearing right now is through the TV and newspapers, and word of mouth, so who knows what is facts or not.

Upcoming meeting should be interesting.

Thanks for asking.

Oh, we do have a state repr from another parish that has taken an interest in the sinkhole. Seems he is pushing for federal help.
