They are claiming that it a "gusty wind" was threatened the jump and also the radios had problems... Hmmmm... As long as the onboard camera of the capsule and the helmet camera of the jumper would record Earth's low orbit, I wonder what's up there right now, that they don't wanna take any risk of recording live.

dude i watched it live and the wind was gusty as hell.

Buddy .....when you are going to ride a balloon to an altitude of 23 miles, jump out and break the sound barrier with nothing but your body. You don't want nice weather. You want fucking perfect weather.

That balloon can't withstand winds of more than 3 mph. Weather needs to be literally PERFECT!

The balloon is extremely thin, the weather needs to be perfect and it wasn't, the winds were pretty gusty and the balloon went back and forth which is not ideal at all.

They say the balloon skin is 1/10th the thickness of saran wrap.

Apparently they were worried that a 17 mph wind gust had blown the balloon horizontal and part of it touch the rocky ground. Fearing any small ding or tear in the very thin balloon membrane might cause it to not reach full altitude, they aborted.

Living in NM, I can say that today was very odd in our skies. The "Contrails" were many and thick. Saw no less than 10 aircraft in the sky at one point, and twice saw them moving headlong towards each other as if playing chicken (though I know perspective is dubious from the ground, I would say that no more than 300 yards seperated them despite seeming like a hair.) Maybe there was too much air traffic, as this is not usual at all by a longshot. I am close to white sands, though none of the air traffic looked to be millitary.


Just additional info from a state resident.

In New Mexico, the skies can be blue and the sun shining but the winds can be blowing 55-75 mph just a breezy day there but the wind could raise havoc on a parachute.
