Alabama - a scary state to live ?
Couple of my friends live in Prichard,Alabama and they are planning on moving to Nebraska or Iowa where the whites are majority.

It seems gun shootings, mugging, burglary are part of daily lifestyle of the people over there.

Is Alabama that scary ?

Yes, it's scary.

They have a lot of dry counties there too.

Pritchard is predominantly black and hard hit in this economy. You have to know where to live in Alabama just as you do in most states.

Prichard is a ghetto of Mobile. Mobile is encompassed of Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Baldwin County is home to Fairhope, one of the most old-school southern old-money towns in Alabama infused with non-ghetto Mardi-Gras and Paula Dean.

Prichard is a ghetto known for a few good athletes per year and murders. Mobile is actually really nice, though. More rain than Seattle but much more upscale than most towns in America-even to the disbelief of the average ignorant blogger.

Prichard, Mobile, and the area around it are awful. I always hear shit about them on the news, a new murder or shooting every night. The thing is though, the huge area around Omaha, Nebraska, and Council Bluffs, Iowa are like that, too. Like that entire area is horribly racist and on a ton of meth. I moved from down here up there for 8 months and had to leave because it was SO impoverished, so racist, and so full of hard drugs that I just couldn't take living there.

I highly advise moving somewhere a little further away from Prichard, not halfway across the country. The racism is going to be a huge system shock for a southern person if they are black. White too (as I'm indian/native american), but anyone, really, who's not profoundly bigoted themselves.

the strip going horizantally right through the middle of the state known as The Black Belt is a scary place to live.

just tell your friends to consider moving to the north or on the south coast

Yeah, I'm rural outside of Huntsville. No crime at all to speak of--some drugs and burglary once in a while but otherwise, not much.

Sections of high crime and sections of almost no crime.

Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway.

Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?. . .J. Handy

Even so, we just don't have anything like urban crime in NYC or LA even in the black belt. I have no idea why anybody would think this state is scary when we have such massive crime in areas with larger populations.
