There's quite a bit of bullshit in this thread.
Allow me to address a few points.

Kubotans are absolute crap for a woman to depend on to defend herself, period. (Men for that matter) End of story. Kubotans were developed by Tak Kubota to assist police in restraining techniques. Any other use is fantasy and dangerous misinterpretation of what it was designed for.

Fucking tonfas are crap for fighting, unless you swing them like a club. Swinging from the handle is useless. Even cops don't want to carry PR-24s anymore. Go to a Dog Brothers meeting sometime and see how many guys prefer tonfas.

There is no such thing as having to carry an ID because you have trained extensively in martial arts. I don't give a fuck what you trained in. You are a fucking liar, lady.

Lester is right about carrying his .45 acp. Lester knows what the fuck he is talking about.

The shot to the throat advice is good, if you are bare handed.
It works.

Sorry if I sound like a fucking asshole. I don't want to see anyone develop a sense of confidence and get killed because they depended on a fucking keychain that only works in a classroom environment.

Keep it real.

My Eotech is about 8 months out of warranty and it's getting dim. So I contacted Eotech and told em about the problem. They sent me an RMA number today and said there would be no charge for the repair. It's a close quarters holographic illuminated rifle scope. Hope they get it back to me before the balloon goes up.....

I am posting this information for the sake of those reading here on GLP. I enjoy the discussions and the data generated, so it is only fair that I give something back from time to time.

Extensive military worldwide research has borne out the following:

Firepower is superior for suppression, but not necessarily for killing.

Killing is superior for local problem elimination, but not necessarily for the permanent elimination of problems.

Wounding is far superior as a standoff technique, but not necessarily effective as killing.

Firepower is only effective over the mid to long term if resupply is guaranteed, but a negative multiplier without.

Resupply is the main predictor of victory, but not in the face of a fast and superior destructive force.

It is always more efficient to defend.

It is always more costly to attack a well defended foe.

A fast, determined, ruthless, and militarily superior attack force is always the route to conquest, regardless of the defensive force.

A defensive force may only draw or win if as fast, determined, ruthless and militarily equal as those attacking.

Tactics are always overrated unless a one-to-one equivalent can be drawn in speed, equipment, and ruthlessness of the individual.

So, you may ask, why is this important for you as an individual??

Read these factual statements, be very specific with yourself what your potential situation is over time, then you may return and as your question.

You must ask the right question.

Re: When SHTF weapon suggestions for close encounters.
it all depends on what your style is...

for close quarters, i like knives. kerambits are especially nice

[link to farm3.static.flickr.com]

mid range i like chucks(metal) or a good machete, broadswoard or katana,

long range, im going with a spear, but a good naginata will do.

[link to upload.wikimedia.org]

I want a good recurve bow as well.

Throwing weapons are also good, slingshots are highly underestimated.

Another cool weapon is the sling [link to www.primitiveways.com]

And of course the silent and deadly blowgun. illegal in most states.

First of all the name isn't about me just from a movie I very much like, and it's ironic sarcasm to how many people act on the internet. And your comments to the kubotan, is not true its very easily concealable so the attacker does not see it, and an aim to a boney spot say the shoulder, rib, cheek, jaw, knee etc etc will break that bone. Just a matter of playing innocence till the time to strike, many attackers of women leave themselves open...A LOT. Also with the tonfa's...really not effective unless you swing them like a baseball bat? Your body's natural reaction is to do what when faced with danger? Bring your hands up and protect with your forearms the tonfa reinforces that part of your body to take SIGNIFICANT less damage to that area and allows for a counter attack. Also attacks from it don't hurt?

Tell me those strikes wouldn't put someone down? Not only put someone down but do you see how much lack of wind up it has? Where as most all other blunt weapons you have drawback? This one has non and is still devastating. Want me to go on about how your wrong?

Well it can actually be a very basic weapon. It's design is perfect for natural reaction gets your arms up and block with forearm, and the end allows for punching which is much more devastating than a fist, and you dont risk breaking your hand. Also hitting with the forearm portion is easy. Advanced locks and strikes yea it definitely takes practice, but basic techniques can be picked up in a week.

ive seen it swung in a circular motion as well from the handhold. there are also traps and locks from the batswinging position, so yep youre right, it can be, but only a pure amateur would do that. im a chucker, so i know next to nothing about tonfa techniques.

im good with a knife/kubotan though. I know fo a fact that they are equally lethal.

Oh yea all weapons can be equally lethal, it just depends on preference more than anything. I love Kubotan's for women's self defense, easily concealable and can boil down to basic hammerfist...all they have to aim for is a boney spot and that joint/bone is done.
