Some Bible critics have claimed that Revelation 7:1 assumes a flat earth since the verse refers to angels standing at the “four corners” of the earth. Actually, the reference is to the cardinal directions: north, south, east, and west. Similar terminology is often used today when we speak of the sun's rising and setting, even though the earth, not the sun, is doing the moving. Bible writers used the “language of appearance,” just as people always have. Without it, the intended message would be awkward at best and probably not understood clearly. [DD]

In the Old Testament, Job 26:7 explains that the earth is suspended in space, the obvious comparison being with the spherical sun and moon. [DD]

A literal translation of Job 26:10 is “He described a circle upon the face of the waters, until the day and night come to an end.” A spherical earth is also described in Isaiah 40:21-22—“the circle of the earth.”

Note, the Biblical Hebrew word for “circle” (חוג—chuwg) can also mean “round” or “sphere.”

“The Earth a Sphere—Certain astronomical relations were recognized very early. The stars appear as if attached to a globe rotating round the earth once in 24 hours, and this appearance was clearly familiar to the author of the Book of Job, and indeed long before the time of Abraham, since the formation of the constellations could not have been effected without such recognition. But the spherical form of the heavens almost involves a similar form for the earth, and their apparent diurnal rotation certainly means that they are not rigidly connected with the earth, but surround it on all sides at some distance from it. The earth therefore must be freely suspended in space, and so the Book of Job describes it: ‘He stretcheth out the north over empty space, and hangeth the earth upon nothing’ (Job 26:7).” (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia)]

Proverbs 8:27 also suggests a round earth by use of the word circle (e.g., New King James Bible and New American Standard Bible). If you are overlooking the ocean, the horizon appears as a circle. This circle on the horizon is described in Job 26:10. The circle on the face of the waters is one of the proofs that the Greeks used for a spherical earth. Yet here it is recorded in Job, ages before the Greeks discovered it. Job 26:10 indicates that where light terminates, darkness begins. This suggests day and night on a spherical globe. [JSM]

The Hebrew record is the oldest, because Job is one of the oldest books in the Bible. Historians generally [wrongly] credit the Greeks with being the first to suggest a spherical earth. In the sixth century B.C., Pythagoras suggested a spherical earth. [JSM]

Eratosthenes of Alexandria (circa 276 to 194 or 192 B.C.) calcuated the circumference of the earth “within 50 miles of the present estimate.” [Encyclopedia Brittanica]

The Greeks also drew meridians and parallels. They identified such areas as the poles, equator, and tropics. This spherical earth concept did not prevail; the Romans drew the earth as a flat disk with oceans around it. [JSM]

The round shape of our planet was a conclusion easily drawn by watching ships disappear over the horizon and also by observing eclipse shadows, and we can assume that such information was well known to New Testament writers. Earth's spherical shape was, of course, also understood by Christopher Columbus. [DD]

The implication of a round earth is seen in the book of Luke, where Jesus described his return, Luke 17:31. Jesus said, “In that day,” then in verse 34, “In that night.” This is an allusion to light on one side of the globe and darkness on the other simultaneously. [JSM]

It is also interesting to note that there are 16 scriptures which refer to God stretching out the heavens. These are remarkable confirmations that the Bible is true, as we know today that the heavens are rapidly expanding. [TH]

“When the Bible touches on scientific subjects, it is entirely accurate.” [DD]

No, some guy about 200 years ago named Bishop Usher said the world is 6000 years old. A jewey guy name Jacob Bronowski made it common knowledge because he made a BBC documentary that talked about it and other things but it is not doctrine.

Re: do christians believe in dinosaurs?
There are behemoths and dragons in the bible. Why wouldn't Christians believe in dinosaurs? When one can see the bones and fossil records why would Christians discount factual evidence? Despite humanity's failings, including and especially Christians, truth is what is being uncovered.

Creationism and dinosaurs are not in opposition to one another. There are a great many scientists who are also Christians. As another poster said, carbon dating has been proven to be false. Why would we be so certain that humans and dinosaurs didn't coexist in some capacity?

As time passes science comes closer and closer to realizing God's existence. As much as they would rather be merely an animal who "evolved" from another animal so that they have no one to answer to other than themselves. Evolution is a theory which is more difficult to believe in than the fact that the universe has intelligent design.
 Quoting: A Friend

Carbon dating is wholly irrelevant to dinosaurs.

As for why humans and dinos couldn't live together, well, try finding some Cambrian strata era bunnies or human fossils.

Re: do christians believe in dinosaurs?
Yes it is. That is why every civilization in the world has legends of "dragons", because man co-existed with "dinosaurs".
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24924823

Couldn't be that our ancestors found some big-ass bones and built a myth to fit?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25296548

Umm, no, they didn't go around digging up the ground for no good reason whatsoever. And to think, that every disparate civilization, from ancient Jews, to Aztecs, Mayans, Chinese, Indian, European, would go around digging up dinosaur bones and coming to the conclusion they are dinosaurs and create a similar dinosaur/dragon mythology around these supposed discoveries stretches the limit credibility, nooo?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24924823

Is it that hard to believe. A huge reptilian skull is found and nobody in your tribe/city has seen anything like this before it's obviously going to be thought of as some kind of monster. The first depictions of dragons will have been visual, based on the bits discovered then embellished into legend.

It was simpler times back in the day because critical thinking was not encouraged, very much “know your role and shut your hole”. Not trying to be a dick but I can't grasp how anybody today can go on about the bible being the literal word of god. FFS egyptians had a civilisation up and running 5000 years ago yet don't appear in the bible for 1000 years.

Christians: your Bible references the book of Jasher three (3) times. Have you ever wondered about this book of Jasher? Do you even read your Bible??

Anywho, Jasher explains where dinosaurs came from. The sons of God (angels) were splicing and dicing animal DNA before the flood. Kinda like they're doing now, so we should know what comes next.

This...

And i might add -
the 6000 years question -
it has been approx that many years since the creation of "the man adam" but much longer than that, since the creation of the rest of mankind.

You might want to re-think that. It is not true.

Maybe do a study on what and who the 'serpent' really is.

Hint: it is not a snake, lizard, etc.

In fact every civilization has:

A global flood story
Dragons
gods descending and mating with women to produce heroes (giants)

This occurs in geographically dispersed cultures with no obvious connection.

Only the bible gives dates, names and great detail.
Seems pretty obvious to me that civilizations carried the stories orally as they dispersed throughout the earth.

no. actually the bible states that man and dinosaur walked together and the dinosaurs were taken out in the great flood. the word in scripture for the dinosaur is the great behemoth whose tail was like a great cedar.

the world was created in a few thousand years, but nobody knows the age of the earth. there is tons of data that shows that that the universe is relatively new, but not so new that it's only a few thousand years old.

i did a thread on this not too long ago.

you cant carbon date dinos they get the date by studying the amount of sedimentary deposited over them and understanding the time it takes to turn bone into stone. as well as many other tests like the decay of radiation isotopes.
