It may be brighter than the moon, but how big will it appear to be?
If it's just a dot in the sky, it doesn't really matter to me how bright it is. If it's a massive orb with a huge tail, that's iconic, epic, scary and the stuff legends will be made of for ages to come.
So which is it?
Quoting: William_the_Bloody Ever hear of the "Great Comet of 1680" ? This may be that comet, and could throw a very long tail. After late November, it should look amazing, provided it doesn't break up as it passes by the Sun.
