I found something...
I always promised you guys I would tell you if I ever found something I couldn't explain, and that hasn't changed just because I'm done debunking astronomical bullshit. Well I found something. While searching for a lost comet last night, I found something moving between images in my search area. It may indeed be the lost comet (P/2005 T2 hasn't been seen since about 2006, but it should have been detected months ago), but I'm still doing the analysis that will determine that conclusively. If I'm right and it is the comet, then my orbital calculations beat NASA's. I had searched for it the previous night using JPL's HORIZONS system to produce the coordinates and found nothing. I did my own orbital calculations and came to an answer that was a bit different than NASA's, so I tried it. Sure enough, I found this. It may be a coincidental discovery of a new asteroid, however. Very faint, small comets are nearly indistinguishable from asteroids at first. I have to see if the coordinates of this object match well with the previous astrometric readings to produce its orbit. If not, then it's something new. I already checked with the minor planet center's website and it does not match the position of any known minor planet (asteroid or comet). That would seem to exclude P/2005 T2, but they do not have an active orbital determination for this comet so they wouldn't be able to tell me if it matched that comet anyway (as far as they're concerned, it's lost, which is why I was trying to find it). Anyway, whatever it is, here it is. It's the faint dot moving at the center of this animation. Ignore the bright satellite trail in the first image:

Wow...if that turns out to be something, that's quite a find!...

I'm sure it's the ghost of Elenin or PLANET EEEK!...could be a fleet star destroyer class battle crusier passing through a plasma field too...or maybe a decloaked BORG cube ship just dumping it's bilges...those are my guesses anyway....

Very cool! So pardon the potentially dumb question, but what does one do when they find something like you have? Do you give NASA a call? I understand you said you want to do some doublechecking first, but then what? Congrats!

Then I file a report with the International Astronomical Union Minor Planet Center. In fact, I file a report with them regardless, whether it's "just" the lost comet or something new.
