If it turns out to be an asteroid and I get to suggest a name (something which won't happen for years anyway until the orbit is well defined), I've already thought of one. Asteroid names are typically only given to people posthumously, and as such I would like to suggest it be named for amateur astronomer Billy Dodd, who with his wife Alice, founded the Chiefland Astronomy Village. Or I could just fuck with the doomers and name it Nibiru with the reasoning that I found it in 2012. That would be a tough sell to the naming committee though. The discoverer of an asteroid does not get the final say in what it is named, only dibs on suggesting a name, contrary to popular belief.

So nice to see you back on GLP Astro.

Question for you. This "something" that you found, is it moving by, toward, past, or away from our little blue planet.

Incidentally, I still think it's most likely the lost comet (which is already named for its discoverer, Christensen at the Mt. Lemmon Survey), but that's still an awesome find if so.

Unknown at this time. If it's the comet, then the answer is "away." It was supposed to have also reached its closest point to the sun in its orbit this past Sunday. As it is a periodic comet, it has a fairly short orbit of 7 and a half years.
