speaking in tongues is the supernatural ability to speak foreign languages (known human languages). Languages like French, Spanish, etc. No gibberish talk.

it is not glossalalia. period.

i don't doubt that that gift might still be used today in very special circumstances in extremely remote locations. but, i seriously doubt it.

there are rules about them as well. there must always be an interpreter so that everyone in the room can understand this foreign human language.

So clearly, speaking in tongues in the New Testament church were tongues of known languages and not unknown languages or unintelligible sounds. Since many in Judea were bilingual and some even trilingual, it’s not really that surprising that there were many languages being spoken (Walvoord and Zuck 1984, 357). They were praising God in different tongues or languages to give evidence for unbelievers that God was at work in more ethnic groups than just the Jews. This validated the fulfillment of Joel chapter two to the Jews as well (Walvoord and Zuck 1984, 408).

It is used a lot today, there are diversity of tongues. So it's used many ways. Yes, for a foreign language but also as an unknown language if you speaking by yourself to God.

wrong. there is no scripture that speaks of God speaking to us in an unknown divine language. if you run to the scripture in 2 corinthians regarding "groanings" that has absolutely nothing to do with glossalalial utterances in an unknown divine language.

what it means is that when we don't know what to pray for, God fills the gap with His own words. this is not something that we hear or participate with.

Tongues can be used alone, it can be used to bridge a language difference, it can be used against demons, it can be used in a gathering of people with interuptation, it can be used as at Pentecost where everyone in all the other languages could understand, there are many ways for it's function.

People put God in a box and say how He can and can't use His Gifts. I saw that "gibberish" you talk about, affect the 9 demons in my husband once. God can use His gifts for anything He wants and it doesn't even have to be in the bible. I suspect you were raised in a church that you never saw the gifts function? Or abused?

you are the person that i spoke with yesterday in my other thread who saw demons in an entire congregation of church, including your pastor, who, while he was possessed with 2 demons, helped you deliver 8 demons from your husband. you see so many demon possessed people every where you go that you barely leave your house and you haven't set foot in a church in over 30 years (your words).

You hardly invented the language you speak in nor have any basis or reference point for knowing the words you say, in the English language, actually mean what they supposedly mean. You, like every other person, were simply born and you copy what you met on ground. We are a laboratory experiment....a guinea pig, confined to an environment and given a code for communicating.
