If a Carrington Event happened today and the Grid(s) world wide were gone for good, what would you miss most of all?

Tough to get the jacuzzi going without electricty for sure.

I'll be using a variation of the "bag-shower" natureboy was talking about earlier. Thats about the best you can do.

I have read books on the subject my friend, I am not an expert but I have learned a lot about it and its not going to effect us as badly as you think.

The Carrington event was indeed huge but it still took 17 hrs to reach the Earth.... Plenty of time to sort out our Transformers. Also you have to bear in mind that back in 1859 our power systems were DC, that reacts differently to Solar disruption.

I am not saying there wont be some disruption especially to our Satellites but it wont knock us back to the dark ages! Honestly,take a look at the documentary I linked to , its BBC horizon,not junk science.

Please, and I do not mean to be rude, but don't be fooled into thinking the word would spread, and people would work like robots in enough time to power down grids etc...

It would only take a couple of grids to effect the others...like dominos.

It would take hours to spread the word. Once it hit the MSM people would panic making powering down even harder in many places.

Yes, I would miss that most. As the amount of work required simply to regulate our local environment would go from sliding the lever on the thermostat to near full time job. The elderly and weak would perish simply from the temperature extremes placed upon their bodies.

That is why there is Sonar sound-wave technology actually listening to the sunspot activity on the Sun.... this way we get at least a couple days notice of any dangerous changes and we are rapidly getting to the point where we will get a weeks notice and more.

Its all there on the documentary, look at it when you get a chance, another piece of interesting science from the same programme is that we dont actually even power down our transformers, we power em up!

I do not sport/ring spar that much any more, other than when instructing. I am more focused in recent years on military style/true self defense training.

For folks reading his who may not know the difference, when a roundhouse in thrown in a ring, you are to make contact with the ball or top of foot -- your purpose is to get a point, not kill you fellow competitor. In military style, contact is made with the shin & you stay on top of the opponent wailing the crap out of them.

The military type stuff is not typically taught to anyone under 25 (unless they are in the military of course :-P); we are fortunate to have a couple Masters who are former Special Ops they are teaching some lethal mixed stuff to the adult senior black belts. One had me down by the throat a couple weeks ago as he was explaining the technique & taking questions, I could not move, even the slightest move I made ratcheted up the pain exponentially. So much fun to be the crash test dummy, lol!

These guys are astonishing in their skill.

That is one I have always puzzled over. When watching so many SHTF movies, it shows people heading to the desert. Why would they show such a thing?

The desert is completely deadly & the few folks who have the knowledge for desert survival would have to eliminate those hoards, who might do such an unwise thing, for their own survival.

Very few people lived in the desert until the 1920's when air conditioning became possible. In a Carrington type event, The desert would revert to being an inhospitable place. I think you're right about what would happen to places like Las Vegas.

They have a 144 hour window from knowing and the arrival. Yes they have accurate predicting methods, accustic is one and also nuetrino levels miles down the Earths surface will interact 72 hours prior to the flare eruption. Basically the one that knocks it all out will be known six days in advance. This is ample time for power and control to be established by a few, while the rest are clueless. "Continuity of the human race" and all that defence. I would say general population would have 24 hour notice at max. The world would be in chaos for 6 months to a year before the ones who fled with the power re-emerged to reign in the decimated population. This is because there is not enough replacement parts, or reserved energy to effectivly rebuild the power grid within any reasonable time.




Me, I would miss the expectaion of security and saftey I have when I sleep. Nothing else.
