Why are most Italians dark skinned ?

No, I am not. I was curious. I know northern Italy the people are fair skinned and have blue eyes.

My mom is swiss my dad is from Malta but his fam is originally from Sicily when I tan I look orange Im never really pale though. I have dark hair and eyes, some people have said I look middle eastern but I dont think so.

I dunno, my husband's 100% Italian family is all fair and sunburns easily. (they are from Abruzzi region). I tan like a fiend, and have Irish-German background.

Because they are a conglomerate of many different Tribes!

Rent the movie True Romance and listen to Dennis Hoppers character tell Christopher Walkens character the reason for this dark skin. Although he was talking about Sicilians,the Italians had the same experience,historically speaking his explanation was on the money.

It certainly is a valid question, why shouldn't it be. It's bizarre to see someone be called a racist just for asking such a question.

In the north, Italians would naturally be mostly fair skinned people, but they don't of course have only blue eyes.

The south is located very close to the north african coast. The southern part of Sicily is even more in the south than the northermost part of the African coast. All kinds of people have crossed the Mediterranean for thousands of years, so it would only be natural if there were all kinds of skin color in Italy.

I think Sicilian's are rooted with some African genetics.

Maybe that's where our GANGSTA streak comes from?

I'm Sicilian and a little bit of sun I'm darker than the natives when I go to Aruba every year.

And, incidentally, the whiter northern Italians have higher IQ, and are more economically productive, while Sicily in the darker south has the Italian mafia as it's main claim to fame.

It's impossible to speak about these things without getting into racist territory, because whether you like it or not, the truth is racist.

Italians WERE blonde hair with blue eyes. IIRC, Hannibal conquered much of southern Europe (iirc, Hannibal - a Carthaginian - northern African) and forced intermarriage amongst the Italians. The "dark skinned" Italians are mix of black (African) and white (Caucasian).

You would also find that Spanish, Portuguese, and French are actually blonde/blue. The only ones to escape the forced marraiges and rapes were the very wealthy whites. Take a look at picutres of the former presidents of Mexico...mostly white.

Now as to the source of much of this info...my seventh grade Latin teacher so...you may want to research more for yourself.

Sicilians are also famous for their ice cream.

The Africans weren't "black" Africans, they were from what was known in historical times as Libya.
They have berber genes, not black.
