Re: Does this make me an alcoholic?
Anyone who drinks alcohol every day is an alcoholic. Indisputably so.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25346619

So by your rationale, we're all food addicts too?

I think not.

Doing something every day doesn't make you an addict.
I could stop eating for a couple days anytime I want.
I just choose not to.

I drink water everyday, I must be an aquaholic
 Quoting: BRIEF

Me to. lol
I don't drink pop though. So I guess I'm not a popholic.

There is a differance between really, really wanting to drink every day, and physically NEEDING to drink every day
 Quoting: Marax

No one physically needs to drink everyday. They all just really really want to drink everyday. Unfortunately we live in a society of poor babies where we dont need to be responsible for our lives, its always the fault of the drug that ruined our lives.

Re: Does this make me an alcoholic?
If you drink 1 beer every day and you cant stop it ( you feel the need to drink ) you are alcoholic. ( Doctor said me last week. )

Alcoholism not necessary means you are a smelly hobo under the bridge.

Some people can control it. However i think talking to a doctor or a psyhologist would be helpful. It is better to act now. Dont wait until your health ( and social connections ) go bad.

Maybe something missing in your life and you replace it with alcohol.

You created this thread which means you dont want to put your head in the sand. It is a very good start.

And until you find out what to do try to resist. Dont drink more!

Good Luck!

The stresses of life (work traffic government and douchbags in general) cause people to:

a- freak out
b- take deadly pharma drugs
c- have three or four drinks and turnoff the angry brain cells

I'll take C everytime.

If you are not an alcoholic yet, you are well on your way to being one.

I just watched my friend, who over the past 10 years did the same thing.

Started out just kind of like a couple of beers each night, then a six pack, then a six pack of tall ones, then a 12 pack, then a 6 pack or 12 pack of MALT double strength beers.

Now he mixes up between strong beers 16 or 20 Oz, or Vodka and cheap mixer.

The shit creeps up on you.

When you're young, you can handle it, as you grow older you start to lose it, and you don't realize it.

Now my friend can not drive, has done time in jail, has lost his job, his house is being foreclosed, his wife dumped him, most of his old friends wont talk to him anymore.

Do something NOW, don't let the DEMON of Alcohol ruin your life.

DOOM is ON.....for YOU...unless you do something NOW.

You're probably not an alcoholic, but because you say you crave it, esp before bed, you'd better get your kidneys and liver checked. Could be a symptom of something else.

Alcohol > Prozac
Alcohol > Zoloft

That stuff will lobotomize you. I'm in a high stress business and sometimes one has to do what one has to do.

As I stated, take plenty of supplements to prevent organ damage.

Every human body is different, like a fingerprint.

I drink a glass of wine or 2 almost every night.

I also make my self drink zero alcohol for up to 30 days in a row, just to test myself and see if I am addicted or not.

Sometimes if I cant sleep I take Melatonin, Valarian Root, or sometimes a Diphenhydramine sleep aid.

(all are over the counter sleep aids in the US)

Re: Does this make me an alcoholic?
Average people CAN learn techniques for dealing with the Psychopath. The Psychopath is brilliant, malicious, deviant, and malignant, but the Psychopath's desperate NEED for dominance and control can be frustrated.

The Psychopath can be steered down the path to self destructive insanity, rather than vice versa.

Be advised the Psychopath has an underlying HOMICIDAL/SUICIDAL character. If you encounter a really desperately sick one they will set out to literally, or figuratively, murder everyone around them. And if completely frustrated commit literal or figurative suicide, or BOTH.

Re: Does this make me an alcoholic?
These white-collar psychopaths or sociopaths are "individuals who most often do not act out in a criminal way, yet can be just as manipulative and cunning" as a serial killer.

Their personality attributes "typically include superficial charm, unreliability, untruthfulness, and insincerity, [a] lack of guilt, remorse, or shame, [and] a need to engage in thrill-seeking behavior," as well as pathological lying, egocentricity, selfishness, and rejection of authority and discipline.

In short, they are corporate con artists.

They're the tech administrators who over-order company laptops and hawk them on eBay, or employees who sabotage bosses' and coworkers' careers by appropriating their ideas and denigrating their performance to supervisors.

They're the outgoing employees who act friendly to their colleagues only to stab them in the back at every opportunity.

Middle management may be the natural habitat of the white-collar psychopath: Psychopaths are known for their extroversion, their charm, and their polished social skills, and complete disregard of people while trying to achieve corporate goals. Such traits are rewarded within many organizations.

If you think you work for one of these individuals, the authors say, don't be fooled by "props" like the ready smile and good eye contact. Instead, watch your back.

The authors advise setting firm ground rules and picking your battles very carefully. Better yet, seriously consider switching jobs. Lock your desk, secure your computer password, keep your personal life private, and notify your coworkers and supervisors of any inappropriate behavior on the part of this colleague.

As the authors caution, "Anything you say can and will be used against you." Keep notes of any indiscretions and don't blame yourself or feel responsible for the sociopath behavior, the authors say. This is certainly handy advice for anyone who is in danger of being victimized by a white-collar con artist.

Corporate America is a veritable hive of white-collar crazies. Identifying, defining, and diagnosing exact personality disorders your boss suffers from can be a tricky business. Still one sign is universal: the workplace in such cases quickly becomes overflowing with tension.

Avoid taking the toxic bosses actions personally and remind yourself that you are not stuck in a hostile work environment.

Take actions for self-protection and establish personal boundaries rather than try to change the other person.

^^^ THIS!
 Quoting: Marax

My neighbor drank mason jars full of rye whiskey for years. Always had a mason jar in his hand. He also took narcotic pain meds for a deteriorated rotator cuff (?) in his shoulder.

He'd go into the hospital for shoulder surgery, etc. and he'd have violent seizures (from no booze) until they drugged him to the point of comatose. Then they'd keep him knocked out until the seizures lessened. He almost died several times this way.

Well, he actually did die during a bad winter storm in 2006. The power was out for a week, roads closed and I guess maybe he froze to death. Ironic, because he worked for the power company until the shoulder injury.

He may have run out of liquor and died from withdrawal. Autopsy said it was a heart attack. He was 48 when he died.

I quit drinking in his honor.

Re: Does this make me an alcoholic?
1) try raw honey--3 table spoons throughout the day--the sugar has been known to help. You are basically addicted to sugar--raw honey is superior and has other properties that should help. That is a cheap legal remedy.

2) Use a powerful entheogen, any will probably do the job, but the legal ones are Amanita muscaria you can buy online or find in the woods if you know someone who knows mushrooms. You need a spiritual/supernatural experience where all bets are off and you can be truly honest w self. However, this can backfire if you are feeling depressed or do it without assistance of someone who knows how to guide the experience.

3) Turn to God! This is the best of the bunch, because if you are like me, even when you cure yourself you will still end up w God. :) If you don't believe, pray about that. Say: "If there is a God, please help me or show me." Exercize your free-will. Pray for relief from your predicament and use the Lord's prayer three times per day or whenever you need to. It works. Just be prepared to no longer crave alcohol and find something else to do.

Peace!

I drink 2, 32oz of budlight every night (5 and 1/2 beers). I'm now at the point to where I drink both and not even feel drunk, only tipsy. I normally crave this and can't sleep without it. If I get more alcohol, I drink more.

I've been doing this for 3 years now. Have I become an alcoholic? What can I do for help? I feel stuck.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7839103

Yes. If you feel you 'need' alcohol, then at the very least it's considered 'dependence'.

I'm an alcoholic myself but I'm more just a person with addictive tendencies and alcohol is always readily available.

It's not much of a problem really. I was a functioning alcoholic for a long time.

The problem is when you neglect responsibility or lose your ability to carry out your responsibilities.

Unfortunately most alcoholics will just deny what is actually their responsibility.

I quit drinking because I black out off of any form of alcohol now. I don't even get wasted anymore without it ending up in a blackout. And I get very violent in my blackouts.

To each his own. I'd smoke pot rather than go back down that road.

in the old days..you got paid your day's wages in bread...you extended and made it better by putting it in water and making a cheap beer/grog

beer/grog water was a way of preserving water and disinfecting it...saved a lot of people from cholera/disentary whatever

to make a point- american budlight is probably less than 3% alcohol...a ripe fruit approaches 1%...old days grog was probably similar and if you get drunk on budlight I would like to see that and shake your hand because you are a serious lightweight and could never EVER! become a hardcore alkie
