But alas goes over the heads of mainstream audiences that prefer amusement spelled out for them. A convergence of great talent: Novelist Frank Herbert and flimakers: David Lynch & Dino De Laurentiis In his life Dino produced scores of epic scif-fi & fantasy film. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37102610 I would've erased too much whispering from the original and that's about it. I know! The whispering! It was a bit.. melodramatic, but it was Lynch's solution to a chief component to the books it was based on. Dialogue in the books were intertwined with thoughts. You were told what the characters were thinking and some of the main characters communicated telepathically. In hind-sight, I can't think of any workable alternative to the whispering outside of drastic rewriting. I think the bigger problem was the action. The sets, costumes, and music were all bigger than the action. If the warriors & weapons only fought as great as they looked, the movie would have gone down in top sci-fi of all time. The lasers looked and sounded bad, bad, bad. |

But it looked better than the later version! I guess the colors of such uniforms could mimic the desert. I would kept the soldiers uniforms reminiscing of Mussolini's black shirt fascist group. |

Even Lion King and the others I enjoy are enhanced with computer animation in battle scenes, etc. Now, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MIX "RETURN OF THE JEDI" WITH DUNE (and I guess George Lucas stole from Dune books in the same way he borrowed from Flash Gordon and Ming's deadly rays from planet Mongo in order to do his own emperor and empire): |
