Dune was one of my favorite childhood movies from the 80's and I have watched it at least 30 times.

I think the main problem was fitting a novels worth of story into a movie without it being 8 hours long.

I would like to see a modern day remaking of Dune but not as a 2 hour movie, it should probably be a 3D animated series of films or maybe an ongoing television series or miniseries.

So many facets in Herbert's books that make it the ultimate Sci Fi series. Also raises so many questions.

Young who played in DUNE and was the female replicant whom Deckard loves, said Lynch was a guy interested in his private life into meditation and also inspired her in that path.

This makes me think in the film ALTERED STATES in which scientist intaking mescalito and hallucinogen mushrooms floats in that immersion tank completely isolated from external noise. Floats in salt water and gets back in time even having a proto-man metamorphosis and becoming energy beyond the barriers of time.

Makes me think in a wonderful film that was never done: Return to the Apes, produced by James Cameron and written & directed by Oliver Stone, starred by Schwarzenegger. The trip to Ice Age and 100.000 years TO THE PAST was not gonna be via spaceship but using DNA and geneticist Will Robinson (a fake name because he felt "lost in space" after casualties and dead people using that system) would decode the virus that would create doom on earth: babies being born with a disease like being old people. A virus spreading in the whole planet.

It seems obvious to me, after reading the plot, the producers and script writers of RISE of the Planet of the Apes, borrowed a lot from that script.

Cool - I'm going to have to look into the movies that you listed. I just threw out a bunch of the weird associations that I came up with reading the DUNE series, mtDNA being an insight after studying archaeology and genetics.

DUNE is more than a simple allegory for war with the ME, that's for damn sure and a series that is without peer IMO.

And memories - I used to watch classic Planet of the Apes with my dad! Loved RISE too.
