I remember playing dune2 when growing up, and I absolute loved it.

I've just spent the past three days re-reading Heretics, Chapterhouse, and the sequels written by Herbert's son.

Chapterhouse has a reference to Masons - Darwi Odrade mused over "how far governance had come since the days of master masons on earth". Paraphrasing, but unmistakable.


The choices and issues brought up in the later books really revolve around prescience and breaking away from being locked into a set future. Destruction of Rakis to over ride the Tyrant's path.

The culmination is acceptance of thinking machines. The final Kwisatz Haderach wasn't created through genetic superiority, rather experience over multiple ghola lifetimes.
