Anonymous Coward User ID: 25303064 Hong Kong 10/11/2012 10:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Read Jack Welch's piece in Wednesday's WSJ -- the numbers are obviously phony. Quoting: RR 14178401 Here is how the unemployment rates are calculated: Every month, Census Dept. workers contact a sample of 60,000 households (70% by phone and the rest by knocking on the door). The Census workers ask a list of questions and record the answers. Some of the questions allow a great deal of ambiguity -- for instance, a worker is asked if he or she had any part-time work during the previous month. The range is between 1 hour and 34 hours. Thus, if a worker picked up an hour of babysitting the previous month, he or she could be formally listed as "employed" by the Department of Commerce, which, as you'll notice, is part of the Obama Administration. Obama's department reported that 873,000 workers were "added" to the work force in September -- the largest one-month increase since 1983 (during the unambiguous Reagan boom). By the way, that number includes 602,000 government jobs. That report set three records when viewed over the last several decades: the labor-force participation, growth in government jobs and overall job growth. Isn't that amazing? No, it insults our intelligence. Obama has to believe that we are stupid and can't draw conclusions from the facts put before us. The truth is the labor force participation rate is 63.5%, which is the lowest since September 1981. Here's a fact you can bank on: when Romney is elected, the economy will take off like the Space Shuttle. You will know just by driving around town that there is a real recovery underway for a change. Vote Romney! Welch has absolutely no proof of anything, and the numbers took a strong dip after falling for over a year. Some of you are clearly not aware of the facts surrounding unemployment in the U.S market. You have a lot more to critique than the raw numbers, but it look hypocritical when you take the numbers as gospel when they are terrible for Obama, and then question them when they favor him. It shows your agenda, and Jack Welch's agenda too. Uhh....shill? I am not the one posting using images, you already fit the profile of a useless drone so how about you blow off to another thread where you can ride memes and other horseshit into the Romney colored sunset. Facts are facts, I know Republitards have a hard time with them, and like to make them up out of thin fucking air to suit their ideology, but unfortunately that doesn't fly with people who have an IQ higher than 80. |

Every meme they have dreamed up has been based on grossly out of context quotes. Every time he opens his mouth about taxes and spending he has never, once offered even a small detail on any new deductions he is going to make, or any changes to existing(and most expensive) policy enacted by Obama. He would remove nothing from Obamacare substantial, except try and rename it. Not, one, fucking, idea. Go ahead she eps, go find me some fat Romney has outlined he will trim, and no, 8 million on Seasame Street doesn't fucking interest any adults, but you can go and bargain with the fucking daycare down the road if you like.... |

So, you truly believe we need another 4 years of Obama? Nope, I just do not want another Neo-Con bootlicker in office and the whole GOP machine is one giant Neo-Con bootlicking club. I would rather have the majority of the public benefitted, not the Corporate Finance sector. At least with Obama, you can TRY and hold him to some moral standard, ROmney is a completely different piece of work and doesnt give a shit about hurting the little guy. At least Obama has done a little social work to humanize him. Romney is a super, super wealthy member of a highly fundamentalist Morman Sect from Mexico. No thanks. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 25208329 United States 10/11/2012 11:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits dropped to a 4-1/2 year low last week, suggesting that hiring may be picking up after stalling since the spring. Quoting: DoorBert The Labor Department reported Thursday that new jobless claims dropped a seasonally-adjusted 30,000 to 339,000, the lowest since February 2008. The four-week moving average, considered a more accurate gauge of labor market conditions, slid 11,500 to 364,000. Unemployment benefit applications are a measure of the pace of layoffs. When they consistently fall below 375,000, it typically indicates that hiring is strong enough to lower the unemployment rate. Applications have mostly stayed near or above that level since the spring, coinciding with a weak stretch of hiring. [link to economywatch.nbcnews.com] utter fukin brainwashing bullshit. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 25208329 United States 10/11/2012 11:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | David Siegel, the founder and chief executive of Westgate Resorts, a national timeshare company, became famous this year when a documentary movie, The Queen of Versailles, chronicled his effort to build the biggest home in America, a 90,000-square-foot $100 million mansion. Now he’s got a new claim to fame: sending a letter to his employees telling them they’d better think twice about who they vote for, because if Obama is reelected they may lose their jobs. The letter, which Gawker got hold of and prints in full here, begins: “As most of you know our company, Westgate Resorts, has continued to succeed in spite of a very dismal economy. There is no question that the economy has changed for the worse and we have not seen any improvement over the past four years. In spite of all of the challenges we have faced, the good news is this: The economy doesn’t currently pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is another 4 years of the same Presidential administration. Of course, as your employer, I can’t tell you whom to vote for, and I certainly wouldn’t interfere with your right to vote for whomever you choose. In fact, I encourage you to vote for whomever you think will serve your interests the best. He goes on to say that the Obama administration and the press “want you to believe that we live in a class system where the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. They label us the ’1%.’ . . . I’m sure many people think that I live a privileged life. However, what you don’t see or hear is the true story behind any success that I have achieved.” He then tells the tale of his self-made success, and continues: “Just think about this – most of you arrive at work in the morning and leave that afternoon and the rest of your time is yours to do as you please. But not me- there is no “off” button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have that freedom. . . Now, the economy is falling apart and people like me who made all the right decisions and invested in themselves are being forced to bail out all the people who didn’t. The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed 42 years of my life for. . . . o where am I going with all this? It’s quite simple. If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, as our current President plans, I will have no choice but to reduce the size of this company. . . . You see, I can no longer support a system that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, so will your opportunities. If that happens, you can find me in the Caribbean sitting on the beach, under a palm tree, retired, and with no employees to worry about. these are the assholes that run america. atm |

Apparently, the state in question (and it pretty much has to be California to account for anything close to 30,000) forgot to include that stockpile of unprocessed claims in their tally for this week (which is the first week of a new calendar quarter). Since the seasonal factors expected an unadjusted surge of almost 20% in the period to account for the quarterly filing pattern, failure to adhere to that pattern in the raw data (unadjusted claims were only up 8.6%) creates a big drop seasonally adjusted.
