US assassination drone strike kills 16 in northwestern Pakistan

A US assassination drone strike has killed at least 16 people in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region, Press TV reports.

According to local officials, the unmanned aircraft targeted South Waziristan's tribal region, on Thursday.

The aircraft reportedly fired four missiles on a regional compound in the area. Initial reports said 11 were killed in the attack.


On Wednesday, at least five people were killed in a similar strike in North Waziristan.

Earlier this week, Pakistanis took part in a massive two-day peace march led by major Pakistani opposition figure, Imran Khan, in protest against US assassination drone strikes in the country.

The drone strikes have contributed to the rise of anti-US sentiment.

Despite Pakistani government’s repeated calls on Washington to end the drone attacks, the US government continues its strikes on the tribal regions of the country.

The aerial attacks were initiated by former US President George W. Bush, but have escalated under President Barack Obama.

The drone strikes have triggered massive anti-US demonstrations across Pakistan to condemn the United States’ violations of their national sovereignty.

US Drone Strike Kills 16 in Pakistan’s Orakzai Agency

At least 16 people were killed and another six wounded today in a US drone strike against the Orakzai Agency, with the drones firing several missiles at a compound belonging to Maulana Shakirullah, a commander loyal to the Bahadur Group.

The Bahadur Group, a loose-knit militant faction run by Hafiz Gul Bahadur was initially part of the Tehreek-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and still uses the name despite a falling out between Bahadur and the Mehsud leadership of the TTP at large. Bahadur’s group has deals in place with the Pakistani military promising mutual non-aggression during Pakistan’s operations against the Mehsud factions of the TTP

The identities of the victims are unclear, but local officials say that several Afghan nationals are believed to have died in the attack. This is not a tremendous shock, as the area attacked is not far from the border and large numbers of Afghan Pashtuns continue to live in the Pakistani tribal areas since the 2001 US invasion.

Today’s attack is the second US strike against the tribal areas in as many days, as yesterday a strike against North Waziristan killed five other people, none of whom has been identified.

Pakistan lodges protest against US assassination drone strikes

Pakistan has lodged a protest with the US Embassy over Washington’s deadly assassination drone strikes, saying that the attacks are in violation of international law.


The protest was lodged with the US Embassy in Islamabad on Thursday, following two recent US drone strikes in the country’s northwestern tribal regions.

"A protest has been lodged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the US Embassy in Islamabad against drone strikes inside Pakistani territory on 10 and 11 October, 2012," Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The embassy was informed that the “unacceptable” drone strikes are not only a violation of international law, but also a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.

On Thursday, a US drone fired four missiles in the northwestern tribal area, killing at least 16 people.

Latest U.S. drone strike in Pakistan kills 18 people

MIRANSHAH, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least eighteen people were killed on Thursday when a U.S. drone struck a suspected militant compound in Pakistan's volatile tribal region, just one day after another U.S. drone killed five suspected militants in the same region, officials said.

Pakistani intelligence officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the latest attack happened on Thursday when an unmanned U.S. drone fired four missiles at a madrassa (religious school) in the Buland Khel area of Orakzai agency, close to the borders of the North and South Waziristan tribal regions.

The officials said the madrassa was led by an individual who is believed to be affiliated with the Taliban-affiliated Haqqani Network, which is one of the top terrorist organizations and threats to U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan. At least 18 suspected militants, most of them from Afghanistan, were killed while several others were injured.

British peace activists have organized a march against the opening of the first UK unmanned drones operating base as part of an international week of action against killer drones.

Anti-war activists will hold a demonstration at RAF Waddington on Saturday 13 October, in opposition to the inauguration of the first UK operating base for killer drones.

The protest comes after a week of peace walking across the Midlands to oppose the operations of unmanned assassination drones, which are said to have killed thousands of civilians in U.S-led invasions of Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and in Gaza, where they have been deployed by the Zionist regime’s army.

Car Suicide Bomb Kills 16 in North-West Pakistan

A suicide bomber on Saturday blew up a car at a crowded market in a northwestern Pakistani tribal town, killing at least 16 people and wounding 30 others, officials said.

The blast ripped through the main market in Darra Adam Khel near to a local anti-insurgent peace committee office, which officials said was the target of the attack.

"The death toll has risen to 16 and 30 others were wounded," local government official Fakhar-ud-Din told AFP.
