D.C. man orders TV from Amazon, gets assault rifle instead
It's not yet clear how it happened, but a Washington, D.C., musician who ordered a flat-screen TV through Amazon received a military-style assault rifle instead.

Seth Horvitz ordered the 39-inch Westinghouse TV last week through one of Amazon's third-party vendors, WTTG-TV reported. On Tuesday, UPS left a smaller box at his apartment in northeast D.C. The 38-year-old electronic musician told The Washington Post he thought the seller had sent him a stand for the set.

Inside, Horvitz found a black, semiautomatic Sig Sauer SIG716, similar to the M16, which U.S. forces have carried for 50 years, and the AR-10. The SIG716 is used by law enforcement and the military.

"I was confused as to how that kind of mix-up could happen," he told the Post. "It surprised me to see how easy it would be for a gun to show up on someone's doorstep — not just a gun, but an assault weapon."

This seems extremely fishy... The only people who are allowed by law to receive firearms via post/mail are licenced FFL dealers. If the seller did, indeed, send this weapon instead of a TV, the seller is in hot water up to his eyeballs right about now. It is not as simple as making a mail order and waiting for a weapon to show up on your doorstep. When ordering firearms from a catalog or over the web, you have to arrange with the seller and a local FFL to have the weapon shipped to the FFL. The FFL does a background check on the recipient and receives a fee from the recipient and delivers the weapon once the backgound check comes back clear.
It is, to me, sad how fast people forget the FOUNDATIONS of our fine country! This country was built by an armed population capable of fending for themselves, and will be lost by couches full of potato-sheeple riding their 52" HD-LEDTV's into the orwellian sunset. :(

If I had gotten the gun instead of the tv I would have been happy, that gun is pretty expensive.

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

I'd like to go quietly in my sleep, like grandpa did. Not screaming in terror like the people in the back seat of the car he was driving.
