Made this post in another thread, but you guys might enjoy it as well. Probably if you've been following the story you know most of this background, but if not, maybe it will be useful:

I'm not trying to be a shill, or downplay the severity of this thing. It's bad, and it's going to get worse. But, I do have at least a little background that might get you started on your own research if you're interested.

I've been very interested in the geology of the Gulf Coast for many years, and have worked in the oil business in the region, although I don't any more.

First off, you probably know there's lots of oil and gas drilling in Louisiana. The petrochemical industry is big, not only for wells in the gulf, but for wells all over the state.

Second, there are interesting geological formations in Louisiana called 'salt domes'. Underground, large deposits of salt push upward against a layer of 'gumbo' soil, heavy in clay, that is also common in the area. In places, it pushes so strongly that the ground is pushed all the way out of the swamp to form an island, like Avery Island. Note the salt is not exposed directly to the flowing swampy surface water, or it would dissolve and be washed out to sea in time.

Bayou Corne has one of these salt domes, called the Napoleanville Salt Dome.

Third, some interesting things happen with these salt domes. The salt is impermeable, and can form layers like flaky bread with the native 'gumbo' soil, OR with oil and gas. Large natural reservoirs have been found around salt domes, under the earth.

When these are emptied, they are then sometimes used to *store* other oil and gas products. I am not making this up. In fact, this is where the U.S. strategic petroleum reserve is stored. It's not clear if the Napoleanville salt dome is being used by the feds or not. They probably try to keep this info secret.

Now, what has happened here is that this company Texas Brine has excavated large pockets of salt from inside the dome, and has then leased out storage space to gas and oil companies to store their products. Then, part of the dome collapsed.

So not only has the land been getting sucked down into the hole AND all the nasty chemicals that were being stored there are coming out and messing up the area, but ALSO the caverns in the dome have now been exposed to fresh surface water, which is dissolving more salt away day by day, exposing new pockets of stored or natural oil or gas, and growing the sinkhole.

So the environment is screwed up, hundreds of people had to leave their land, and the sinkhole is just going to keep growing and growing until it's gone or enough clay-rich gumbo soil settles on top of the remaining salt to prevent any more fresh water from getting to it.

Well I expect what the article was trying to say it that the hole might be shallower now that so much material has fallen down into the hole.

However, I have to point out that salt domes are associated with naturally-occurring pockets of oil and natural gas (and water) that might also have been breached during this process, and there's no telling how deep those go.

Cowens: can you please elaborate on the Louisiana salt domes being part of the strategic oil reserve? and is the Arkansas oil catastrophe part of this underground reserve? and if so, is this sabotage?

"The Gulf of Mexico was a logical choice for oil storage sites. More than 500 salt domes, known to be an inexpensive and secure means of petroleum storage, are concentrated along the coast. Also, the Gulf Coast is the location of many U.S. refineries and distribution points for tankers, barges and pipelines. In April 1977, the government acquired several existing salt caverns to serve as the first storage sites. Construction of the first surface facilities began in June 1977."

The Pegasus Pipeline that ruptured in Arkansas heads south to Beaumont, TX where there are storage, shipping, and refining nearby. It doesn't go particularly close to Bayou Corne, but there are lots other ways to transport that oil over to Louisiana.

That's a long way of saying 'I don't know', I guess. :)

Also I don't know about the sabotage idea. As the article says, the reserve is spread across lots of salt dome reservoirs, so it's hard to see who would benefit from sabotaging just this one.

Maybe someone who wanted to hurt the company in charge, Texas Brine, I guess.

Judging from the video here and the better one in an above post -- this looks more like water carrying oil and other stuff, and subsiding the land area like Louisiana. Can anyone from that area say if that area was swamp land before or is it indeed subsiding? If so, that is very alarming.



Mayflower, Arkansas is near a lot of water so don't know. But so is Louisiana.

CALIFORNIA, Texas MEGA QUAKE OVERDUE - IMMINENT 2013

I am going to try to be as respectful as I can because I believe you to be sincere, and I truly do believe that everyone should be entitled to his or her beliefs.

However, that being said, why is it that, to my knowledge, not ONE SINGLE specific "God or Jesus" vision/dream/etc. as posted on GLP has ever come true? Yes, I do realize that time may prove some of the so-called "the Lord told me" people correct, but in the years and years of "religious" people posting such things on GLP, to repeat, not ONE specific prediction has actually come true (Please correct me if I am wrong with the link to the thread. Thanks.)

So, pardon me if I scoff, but if there are any "religious persons/prophets" reading this, the next time you are "visited" or have a vision of some sort, would you please at least ask Jesus/God/the angel/whoever to at least put the prediction within a three-month or so time frame?

See, this is one of the many things that bother me about such writings here. If Jesus/God REALLY wanted people to believe the prophets, wouldn't She/He/It make it easier for people to save themselves if Jesus/God is truly the loving figure people like you say he is?

Again, I am sincerely trying to be as respectful as I can, under the circumstances, but people like you do not make it easy!
