In the simplest terms, this is (GLP) discretionary. Take care of yourself/family/food/rent, on and on. Trin and any Mod will say the same. On the other hand, no bans, within reason, the Inner Sanctum side of GLP, private messages. Try one month....if it fits, great!

One final point. Remember those Gold Stars we used to get as kids?....you get one of those too!!!!

My ip address points to my ISP (armstrong cable) which is a local company. They would have to call up armstrong (who really supports our communities privacy btw). And ask them about my IP address and who it belongs to in their database. Whatever process they go through in surrendering that information would eventually involve my knowledge of it too. Beyond that, GLP would have to be giving them their customers IP addresses in the first place. (god I hope not) lol...I was thinking of subbing for a month as well.

Larger and crappier ISP's...*cough* time warner *cough* on the other hand are a MUCH bigger problem. They could care less about your privacy, freedom, etc. Go local IMO :)

What is the point of the bans anyway? Is it just to get people to pay for membership or are there other reasons for it?

Full members can have custom smilies that allow you to do just that...

Cost less than a couple drinks at a bar for a month, to some people this is inconsequential and not an issue. If someone is pinching every penny to make rent and keep food on the table then yeah, paying for a forum would make that person a moron, however, to someone who can afford it, there is nothing really moronic about it...
